What Does a Rabbit Stand For
    #2901268 - 07/18/04 01:22 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I recently had a strange experience where I was walking into what me looked just like a clear space. I looked up at the sky then glanced right back down and there right in front of me on the sidewalk was a rabbit looking right up at me. My question is to the well read here, what has the rabbit stood for in history? In mythology, folklore, symbolic of, etc. What's it meant to Eastern religion or in the framework of the cosmos? I think everything we see could be more symbolic sometimes than real.

From http://www.rampant-griffon.net/paganplace/animal/listland.html :

"Rabbit: Rabbits are tricksters, companions to witches and "gatekeepers" to the night and to a different type of consciousness. Rabbits symbolize fertility, mystery, fear of tragedy, long life, quick-thinking, strengthening intuition, illness and disaster. They call your mental fears to you in real life. They teach you to stop "what if" thinking. They are connected to Eostra, Holda, Andraste, Freya, Hermes, Aphrodite, Eros and Chandra."

I think it was probably just a rabbit, though.

"Rabbits are tricksters"

Yes, but Coyotes eat them.

If you see someone in a bunny suit it means the world will end in twenty-eight days..

Well off the top of my head, i can think of the pagan use of the rabbit as a symbol of fertility and also rebirth, which is why its an easter symbol (spring, jesus, etc...).

It means that you recently watched the old Jimmy Stewart classic "Harvey".
