Thanks Uncle Sam
    #2899725 - 07/17/04 12:17 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Just a post to vent.

Tommorrow is my oldest brothers birthday. It would be nice to give him a present and have a beer with him. Unfortunatly thats not possible because a sniper ended his life 31 years ago this past spring in the jungles of Vietnam.

I remember before he left he wanted to dodge the draft and him and my dad had a big argument. He believed the war was bullshit. My dad told him it was his duty so off he went. I really idolized him as most younger brothers do.

Years later me and my father had a huge fight. He told me he died for our freedom. I threw my father to the ground and said my brothers death deserved more then some bullshit lie about patriotism. His death was the US goverments fault as much as the Viet Cong sniper that blew a hole in his chest. It's the first time I ever saw my father cry.

It's an amazing thing that we have people willing to put their lives on the line to protect us. If it wasn't for people like that we very well may not have the lives we do today. It's also a fucking shame that this valuable resource has been abused and many men have died in places they should have never been in the first place.

So Uncle Sam I like to say thank you for sending my brother to die.
You'll have to excuse me if you don't see a American flag in my front yard.

Please forgive the negative tone of this post. I'm not trying to bring anyone down or start some political debate. It's just that I find it gutwretching to see a sacred life come to a end for unjustified reasons. Especially when it's someone you love.

I hear ya and feel for ya...to lose a brother is to lose a part of yourself...i'm truely sorry for your loss...

my brother just graduated from the Academy in Colorado Springs and will be going to flight school soon and I am scared to death for him and his life...

he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and he said he's got a better chance of not getting hurt if he's a pilot then if he was an Engineer (hahaha....ya go figure) because I guess they are building like 8 bases over seas and they would be right there and if he was pilot he would be way in the air and away from the fire fight....but who knows...i'm still terrified...

It really sucks that the same thing is happening to so many young men these days too. It's a damn shame.

I appreciate the sacrifice our troops are making, but I don't think that it is a just cause.

it takes an amazing person to dedicate their life to and for this country...whether they agree with the politics that are currently going on...even more if they don't agree with them...

i definitely know i wouldn't be able to give that sacrifice and i greatly admire all that do...

I was young when it happened so it's been a long time. Time has a way of healing. It's his birthday thats though. He was young and madly in love. He had found a girl he wanted to marry and have a family. We have his letters home and all he wanted to do was get the fuck out of Vietnam and back to his womans arms. War is a motherfucker. Especially when you don't know what your fighting for.

It's kind of hard this year because of an experiance I just had on Ibogaine this summer. I saw him walking through the jungle thinking about his love and crack.

Same year my brother died.
Sorry to hear about that bro.

And yes what a waste. 58,000+  never to return alive. And for what?
The cold war was very chilly for some of us.

I like to dream we learned a lesson then. Then my dream is interupted by the evening news.

Yeah Ripple was saying that the evening news reminds him of the way it was back when the Vietnam war was going on...All i can do is just shake my head in disgust about what we are doing over there in Iraq.

sucks man. i had a uncle die over there in 69.
i wasnt born until 9 years later, but still..

Quote:

He was young and madly in love. He had found a girl he wanted to marry and have a family. We have his letters home and all he wanted to do was get the fuck out of Vietnam and back to his womans arms.

-My uncle was also in the same situation. im sure thousands of guys over there were in that same situation.

i read something today about this..

it was like this; when a man has to go off to war, he makes the decision to either go and risk doing something extremely dangerous, or he just stays home with his women and such. The women will cry and beg and wish that her man wont leave and stay home safe, (she is scared and sad) but really, she wants him to go if that is what he feels is right or is his duty as a man.. if the man tells her he has made up his mind and is going to war, and then later-on turns around and says im not going im just staying here with you and being safe (yay, happy right? no not completely), then the women unconsciously loses respect for that man and it shows that her man has no control over making his own decisions (for himself). ultimately the women will respect that man more if he puts his beliefs of what he has to do as a man over that of what he has to do for the women..

i dunno, its a real mindbender.

unfortunate day for you to remember china.

GG
