Uncle Ben Question

Hi Guys,
I colonised 10 bags of Uncle Ben's but then had to leave on extended travel. What's the longest you can leave the bags before moving to the tubs? At this point it's been a couple of months.
Thanks
Morgue

Good luck with your grow either way!

I don’t know dude but I’ve heard repeatedly this is a terrible tek to use, that’s almost always destined for contamination.
Do yourself a favor and stick to tried-and-true teks. I wouldn’t deviate much from Roger Rabbit’s teks in Let’s Grow Mushrooms on YouTube. If you wanna grow bulk, use bulk substrate. If you want to be discreet, have high controllability, or want to learn the process, use PF Tek.

The longer your colonization the more chances you're giving for bacteria and mold to grow on a Tek that already has notoriously high contam rate. But I mean it's already done - if you return and they're not funky horror show, then spawn it.
Good luck!

UB SUCKS
I had bought a ton of Uncle Ben's bags after I got back into this hobby before getting back on the Shroomery
Even inoculation in a SAB with clips to seal the rice off still ended with 75% contam
Its the stupid sealing with micropore tape. It lets stuff in especially during the break and shake.
THEN you cant even tell if its contammed or not til you open the bags. A great opportunity to let contam spores fly all over your space. No bueno
I actually have my last 6 UB bags all colonized for 2-3weeks now. I guess Im spawning them tonight, cuz why waste em?
Overall tho youll do much better to just skip this whole stupid tek. Hell its cheaper to even just buh grain bags from vendors (some of em at least). You will probably have a similar failure rate, but at least you'll be able to see in the bags to know if they're contaminated before you open them

Ignoring the UB part, that's a long time to leave bags at room temperature. If any of them lived didn't contaminate you will probably find them full of spindly mushrooms past their prime. Cubes will still fruit in high CO2, they won't thrive though.

Couple of months? Well, I bet you could probably still could get some life out of it. With the right approach. Putting it to bulk might not be the best approach, but you could try. But I also assume it is dry AF. And quite likely full with contams (as UB tek is high risk). You will see when you open it. What is the longest: dependent on variables like amount/cm3 of GAE-holes, time passed, colonisation speed, whether overlay occurred or whether a 'protective layer of mycelium against water evaporation' appeared. If you are new (and probably you are) better to use other tek and start with SAB and agar and stuff. Cheers.

I think this is the best answer you'll get.
There's not a chance in hell that they're perfectly okay and ready to spawn.
If they are prove us wrong give us some pics.
But that's like saying I had a match burning under a piece of cardboard in a 2 week rainstorm is it still lit?
The pf tek and watertub is what you should be doing here. Wish you luck on the next project
