What works best, if the jars are kept someplace dark, or light?

Keep the jars in a completely dark place while they are colonizing.

So after they colonize you should turn them upside down, or when they are almost through?

(I am also a noob)
birthing is when you take the cake out of the bottle right? so you say to wait til you see the begining of pins? I've read about taking them out and then inducing it by 3 things: light, increased oxygen (decreased co2,) and cold shock. so is it better to take them out and induce pinning, or leave them in and wait to see the beginings of pins?

(i guess 2 of the 3 inducers would still work while in the jars, but not the decrease of co2...)

ima bump this up so domey or magash can answer this for me =D

MF was wondering exactly when he should birth his cake because hes getting close to the time when he will need to. the PK tek says to birth when you see pins, but hes gonna dunk and roll, and he thinks dunking and rolling is hurtful to the pins, so therefore he should birth before he sees them? when is the right time for birthing if your gonna dunk and roll?

Once you cannot see anymore substrate left, wait another 3-7 days to ensure complete colonization, and birth from there (dunk or whatever).

Also, another Q, I did 12 Jars in a pressure cooker already but instead of letting them cool in the pressure cooker, after the hour of cookin i just took them out to cool in a cabinet above my stove... bad idea or will it do nothing? Thats the same way we did it before, and also we colonized our cakes in the middle of his bed room in indirect sunlight, I guess thats why it took SOOOO LONG to colonize, but damn, they were some good mushrooms, currently waiting to harvest the third flush! anyways, i left 4 jars in the PC to let cool overnite for today, so i geuss in time i may answer my own question

On a side note, you can leave them in the jars way past pinning, and actually grow substantial sized fruits.... this is Hippie of mycotopia's 'invitro tek' and it was added to the PF tek by the author...

I have friends who do one flush invitro, harvest the fruits, and then birth them normally, with great success...

the invitro flush usually is equal to or greater than the first flush would be if the jars are birthed at the first sign of pinning...
