Beginners Luck? Not!
    #2894544 - 07/15/04 06:51 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Alright. So I order a few myco-bags. Since I am a beginner I thought this would be my easiest route, just to see what to expect when I start working with jars. I innoculate them with spores from a reputable company. I followed every sterilization guidline while innoculating. Well, that was about 7 days ago and no white stuff!! Not even a speck. The temp fluctuates between 72 and 84 depending on the time of day. Am I being an impatient dork, or should I have seen something by know. Oh, and they are recieving no light.

I feel your pain brother. I started 6 jars 6 days ago with spores from Ralphsters and not a spec of white to be seen either. Ive built an incubator in the meantime and they have been in a constant 83 F temp for the last three days and still no growth. No mold, no nothing. Im gunna start 6 more this weekend. Maybe I fucked up somewhere

If you penetrated the substrate and innoculated it away from the sides (like an inch or so deep) than it will take a while for mycelium to show up, but once it does, it will already be widely colonized. You are fine, just be patient, this will take a good month.

PATIENCE  Give them time

Water content  Maybe use a little less water by maybe 3 to 5 drops per 1/2 pt jar

AOAF innoculated 10 rye jars 14 days ago.  All of them were cased yesterday, he said, save two stubborn little bitches that might have been unhappy because they were positioned directly over the heater.  He said these two were not showing much more than 20% colonization, while all the others were thick white with myc.  He has no clue exactly what the cause is.  Don't rush yet.  'Course, this my bud's first time out.  There are plenty of things that can fall apart between now and harvest.  Good luck!

Listen to those guys, and just be patient!

I really just wanted to comment on your username.  I get so excited when I find people who like Rasputina.  They're my favorite band   5 shrooms to you!

First time i grew shrooms i put a single PF jar into a box that originally contained the star wars triliogy, and i put that box on my movie shelf and didnt see any growth for a long time, so i forgot about it, till my grandma wanted to borrow star wars. she opened it up and the jar fell onto the concrete floor. luckily it didnt break, and it was fully colonized.

i'd say just wait, dont fuck around.. keep them at 85 like onetime said. impatience leads to the dark side.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I guess I will just try to forget they exist for a while.

And Rasputina is the best. For those of you who haven't heard them and enjoy originality, you should check them out.
I finally got rid of the dreaded "unrated"!!! Thanks April.
