    #2893355 - 07/15/04 02:39 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Ok.I have some friends that used to grow with the PF Tek and casings.I am going to start off with the pf tek cakes.I plan to get either a 10 gallon or twenty gallon aquarium for 30-50 dollars.

How much will the rest of the supplies cost me,like pressure cooker,1/2 pint jars, brown rice flour, vermiculite, perlite and the peice of plexiglass for drip sheild/fanning?

first if you wanna do it cheaper dont buy the fish tank just use a rubbermaid.
And you dont need a pressure cooker you can steam them it works.
The 1/2 pint jars are like 8 bucks and the rest is all about $4 apiece so int total its about $25 -$30.
thats the cheap way and it works

this is how to steam its from the faq's
"pf tek for simple minds"

In this case steam the jars for 1.5 hours in a pot lid on. Use only approximately 1 inch of water at the bottom.
You might have to add some water to the pot during steaming due to evaporation.

Like he said, save the money you were going to spend on a fish tank and use rubbermaid style plastic bins instead....also should note that you should be able to get a 10 gallon tank for 10 bucks at wal-mart. A PC isnt really needed for pf jars but its nice to have anyway. You might want to factor in the cost of a submersible heater for an incubation chamber.
