AWWWWWWW I would have loved to see it! The lame side of not having tv. :frown:  I am always wanting to hear them talk about themselves and the band.

I have a coplaint about that segment.
I love Phil Lesh as much as I love my own father but his comments on Jerrys herion addiction seemed misleading. (mabye because they only briefly talked about it). It apeared to me that he made it look like Jerry chose herion over the GD.
It's not so simple. It's not like Jerry came in one day and said I'm going to devote the rest of my life energy to herion and not music. In reality what was a pleasurable experiance with herion turned into a deadly addiction that he couldn't escape. Jerry had alot of pressure. All those people who thought he was God and the constent pressure to tour. Herion gave him relief. It's too bad he couldn't have gotten away from it and found a different outlet and gotten healthy. As a herion addict I can relate to how it sneeks up on you. At first it seems like you can control it. After awhile it controls you. I was lucky enough to break free from it, but I was in a totally different context than Jerry. We all know he wanted to be free from the drug. Perhaps if his health had been better and he would have lived longer he could have escaped it. When he died he was working on it.

Like I said I love Lesh and understand what he was saying. I just hope people don't think that Jerry didn't care about the scene and decided to be a junky. Its alot more complicated then that. I'm sure it's just the way it was presented that made it appear that way. They should have devouted the whole hour to the Dead.

He was a beautiful man with a talent that will never be matched. He had alot of weight on his shoulders and pressure that none of us can understand. Like many of us he sought relief in drug form.

His life may have ended early ,but he walked this earth for 53 years and made an impact that will resonate forever. He gave his heart to us for 30 years onstage. I was lucky enough to be able to listen to him live well over 300 times. For me and the thousands of other people he has touched(and continues to through his music) we will be forever Grateful. :gd_icon:

I love Phil too, and I understand what your saying, but if anyone in the world has a right to say that it's Phil. Mind you it seems to me as if he was talking out of frustration about an extremely emotional event which he watched occur, without having any control over. Lesh is possibly one of the smartest people in the industry, he's a genius, and he couldn't help Jerry. It was a sad statement that he made and had anyone other than Phil said it would be very bitter indeed. But somehow coming from Phil I can't get mad about it.

I really think he genuinely misses Jerry a lot...
Im not even really that much of a Dead fan but that part kinda got to me...It must have been really hard on you guys when Jerry died
I was really upset when Freddy Mercury died because i have been a Queen fan from way back when nobody even knew who they were...

I wasn't claiming he was bitter or made me mad. It was just the few comments they aired made it seam out of context. I worried people will get the wrong impression of Jerry as someone who said fuck you all I want to be a junkie.
We all watched Jerry decline over the years. A few of my friends are very close to the band and were just waiting for it to happen.

It's just the statement they aired about how he chose herion over music and his friends. I don't think he made a choice. It would have been nice if they would have explained a little about Jerry's situation. He became trapped in a evil addiction.
There's alot more to the story then was aired. I wish they could of shed a little more positive light on Jerry's death. Their was alot more to the story and his life and problems then was shown.

My problem isn't with Phil, but with the fact that the only comments on the show about his addiction made Jerry seem like he only cared about smack. As I stated in the above post it goes alot deeper then that. I'm sure given the right amount of time Phil or Mickey could have explained Jerry's addiction alot better. Jerry had a very unique , intense kind of pressure on him. I blame this for his unability to abstain from smack. The poor guy just wanted to ease his burden. Unfortunatly with herion it gets you in the end. Those close to him say he wanted to quit and knew it was killing him.

After witnessing the holecaust of the last tour I can understand why he would want to escape. I remember at Dear Creek watching him as the fans tore the place apart. You could see the sadness. The previous show fans had got hit by lightning at RFK. Then the disater at St. Lious with family ODing and the people getting crushed when the shelter collapsed. It was the sadest tour ever. I remember watching the last show at Chicago and wanting it to hurry up and end so we could all head west and heal and regroup for the next tour.
If only I would had known it would be the last time I would ever be with him.

No doubt about that.

It really was. I lost my oldest brother to the Vietnam war when I was a kid and my father as a teenager, and many other very close friends. Though I don't like comparing loved ones, nothing has ever affected me the way Jerry's death did.
When Jerry died so did part of us. When my brother and father died I grieved for myself. When Jerry died I grieved for mankind. His loss runs bone deep.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about him.

This is kinda off topic but i met a kid at the store last sunday who had a Dead shirt on ...I walked outside an asked him where he got his Dead sticker at {It was on his back window of his little truck}
We talked about some of our favorite songs and then he asked me if i ever got to see Jerry...I sadly told him no :frown:

no, mt rushrmore is way overrated.... it's not as big as you would think... and they charge you to park... they should make a new monument with all the members of the grateful dead from over the years (including bill gram) and not charge for parking... that would rock, literaly.
