My friend has a syringe of cams from Hawke. BRF/Verm/Millet is okay. Remember my friend is a newbie. This isn't competition, but collaboration in the interest of the advancement of psyience. What other parameters can we control- Temp, jars, air exchange?

Of course not a competition. I am doing this to see for myself. It may not work for shit... I will be using tall 1/2 pint jars for this. They colonize slower and perhaps will show a difference easier. My space is kept at about 80 degrees all the time. The jars are kept in a small plastic tub with the lids loose. The tub is tightly covered with tin foil. I will be checking them daily to monitor progress and to take pics. Other than that, the tub remains sealed with no air exchange.

On tall 1/2 pint jars, I use 5 drilled holes. I put 0.5 ml in each hole for a total of 2.5 ml per jar. I will have control jars (with fresh water) in order to compare any growth differences.

greymule here is a page on Compost Tea that I found on the net.

"Compost tea is one of the great products you can make with earthworm castings produced in a worm bin. Compost tea is a water extract, rich in soluble nutrients and beneficial microorganisms. You can make compost tea simply by placing earthworm castings in a cloth bag or old nylon stocking and soaking the bag in warm water for a few hours or overnight. You can make it right in your watering can. Compost tea is a great liquid fertilizer. Or use it as a foliar spray. Compost teas help plants grow strong and resist disease."

I don't understand why you want to make tea out of worm castings? They are naturally pasteurized and would do very well in there original form combined with a material that prevents soil compaction. I had a worm box last year but it got too warm and they had to be used for fishin'.

Unfortunately, at the time, I was more worried about fishing than my friend was worried about cultivation. So I have no practical experience to speak from other than the pastuerization part. It seems the worm critters like to eat (some) spores and bacteria.

My box never grew anything bad. (no pun intended). And worms work really fast too, so having your own is practical if you can keep them cool.
