Best place where to hide my growing process?? Hell
    #28900704 - 08/05/24 06:51 AM (5 months, 9 days ago)

My problem is my nosey ass kid that’s it she’s a cop! A ten year old cop and it’s gets so god dam annoying when it’s time to grow stuff

I have these choices :
Basement — thinking it’s cooler down there for summer months might be better for the bags
This is my top choice for my next bag to grow

Garage- I’m afraid a rat or mouse or coon can crawl in there and start being attracted to the bags omg I will flip if I see any markings from an animal ..I live in Long Island New York and we have creatures that will come in ya garage I’ll die if that happens  so this is a definite BIG NO!

Closet- wise only have closets upstairs that are suitable to hide them in but in a cape house the upstairs if u never been in one a cape house  will become a sauna. I can’t keep the air on upstairs if I’m not up there . I won’t keep windows open cause them the heat will just travel eventually down stairs and everyone will bitch why do I have upstairs windows open our upstairs is completely vacant just empty rooms I’m thinking maybe just placing them In the middle of the rooms instead of actually in closet but then again I raised a cop kid. I love her to death she’s a good kid and I can’t be the one to tell her mommy is trying to grow shrooms..lol if she finds them I’m doomed !

Please tell me where everyone is hiding or growing these shrooms in their houses thank u for the help !

I was honest with my kids and explained everything about them and encouraged them to research and make their mind up beforehand but I’m lucky and they’re cool af, it’s caused them to be more straight edge than their peers but also open minded and educated thankfully, not sure anyone will be able to give you advice on this as only you know your kid and your house, not to mention the ramifications of she blabs, worst case you can do an outdoor bed disguised as a garden or in pots, people are even growing subtrops/semps in buckets which are about as innocent and disguised as you can get, also impervious to critters as the lid is on with a micropore covered hole for fae.

I grow in my basement as its generally easier to keep everyone's eyes off it as its an unfinished basement and we don't spend much time down there anyway.  But  3.A.M is right if your kid is nosy they will find it eventually there's not much you can do with someone that's curious that lives in your house.  But that's just my opinion.

When I was a kid I knew what was in every nook and cranny of the house, so it all depends on how nosy she is. If I was in your situation I'd put a locked cupboard in the basement and rig a small light source in it, assuming that the temperatures were OK.

The easiest thing to do would probably be to make some spawn and put it in planters outside, plant some grass or a flower on top and you should be good. Unless she's interested in that too. Or a patch with some basil or other herbs, something that grows quickly.

Kiddo gonna find it, you know this.  Grow gourmet mushrooms and get the kid involved. keep a a few special jars out of the way.  Best luck!

Yeah, I'd go with the growing mostly edibles plan. Psilocybes are only distinctive in the fruiting phase, which can be kept to a short duration. Everything else can just be in the mix with your edible cultures.

But you know, there's no real lower limit on how small a fruiting setup could be. You could even theoretically constrain everything (for now) to something like one PF cake at a time.

In my case, my process takes up one wall in an upstairs room, door typically closed if there's company and nothing is very visible from the door or windows. So, kind of discretely tucked away, but there's not really anyone to hide it from. Grandkids come over sometimes, but there's not a ton of curiosity about it from them for whatever reason (and their parents all know what's up).

This is all great advice I have been open and honest about addiction in our family and taught her to stay away from these things but now that I have been using weed and shrooms for the last year I’ve crossed over to the other side LOL all these years later lol I feel like a hypocrite.
Then one day someone said this to me “how would u feel if ya kid did weed or shrooms” and then parents say “well what did u expect the mom does it” I was like omg nooo never I never want my kid to even smoke cigs so yeah I felt shitty after that comment.
I’m very open w her for the last year I hidden this weed and shroom thing from her and I honestly don’t know where to even begin to confront her about it…ugh ..:

Thank u for the advice
I think like the third poster said the basement might be best since it’s unfinished we don’t spend time down there and she’s afraid to be down there by her self lol so I’m thinking I could get away w there I can’t do anything w baskets or pottery plants disguised outside I don’t think it’s growing environments for shrooms where we live in Long Island NY ? Second coons will get to my secret spots outside for sure everything needs to stay indoors

Thing is, we're entering a whole different world, and the world your daughter will go through adolescence in is going to be very different from what we experienced.

She is going to be exposed to these things, and people are going to be talking about them a lot. Weed is legal and available everywhere, and by the time she's 18 mushrooms will at least be even more normalized than they are now. And they will certainly remain in a "different category" than everything else, which, IMO, is quite appropriate.

I had parents and relatives that were pretty direct with me about drugs. I got the message early, and often, that I "wasn't allowed" to mess up my brain yet, regardless of what they might do.

My grandma (on LI) told her kids back in the 70's that she didn't trust the weed that was out on the streets, so she would grow some right there in the back yard for them to smoke. Her more conservative neighbors weren't too keen on the idea, and politely asked her to pull the plants growing along their fenceline lol

I have a friend who I used to buy weed from pretty regularly. I watched his son grow up in that situation, at least when it was his time with him (joint custody). When he was younger, there was a strict rule about not going into the bag-flipping room when there was company. I remember one time when the kid was about 12, and he barged in to ask his dad a question about something. My friend yelled at him to get out, and his son responded "what are you guys doing... oh, THAT'S JUST WEED" in the snarkiest middle school kid voice lol...like, having grown up with it, it wasn't even that cool. Just dumb old people stuff.

Another friend told me that his 14 year old son approached him and his wife and told them that he thought he was ready to try cannabis. Not necessarily right then, but maybe sometime in the relatively near future. They sat down and wrote up a contract, that basically said, if his friends were doing it and he thought he wanted to, he would come home and check in with them/try it there first.

Obviously, there are serious legal pitfalls to consider. So you gotta know your family and community situation. But in my opinion, weed and shrooms, if the proper information is provided and the sourcing is legit, don't pose anywhere NEAR the dangers that tobacco and alcohol do. And we know that the children in our lives will absolutely be exposed to those. Better to give them all the tools they need to make informed decisions, and let them know how you feel, up-front. I think that includes honesty about your own experiences and habits, to whatever degree you feel comfortable sharing and is age-appropriate.

I think the most important message to impart to kids is that it's almost always better to wait until you're older and your brain is more developed. None of this shit is going anywhere. You have your whole life to get high and screw around, but only a few years to be a sober, properly developing teenager. People who start smoking cigarettes and drinking super young have the hardest time quitting.

And, seriously, I think the more kids think that their parents may dabble in some soft drugs now and again, the less likely they are to think of them as "cool." Also, it means that "MY PARENTS WILL TOTALLY KNOW THAT I'M HIGH." That in and of itself was a huge deterrent for me lol

But seriously, I think the things to freak out about most are 1. Nicotine and 2. Alcohol

:whathesaid:

For sure. My kids are 10 and 13. They know my wife and I drink and smoke weed occasionally and it's just that, occasional recreation. They also know myself and both my parents have a long history of harder drug usage and they see how bad it messed up my parents and me. I tell them all the time if I hadn't cleaned that shit up I'd probably be a train wreck. I think kids are a lot smarter than they get credit for especially now when so much info is available to them at any time.

Anyway I grow mine in the basement and hope they don't ask too many questions lol
