Possible Green mold that has disappeared?
    #2888700 - 07/14/04 07:34 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

About five days following the innoculation of three jars with Australian cubenisis, I noticed significant mycelium development. However on the edges of the circles of mycelium, there was green coloration. Since then though, the entire case has been covered with mycelium, with no evidence that the green coloring was ever there. Is that a good sign? Are these dangerous and should they be thrown away?

Of the three jars, only one still has signs of green on the bottom of the jar (which I have included pictures of). All of the jars minus the one pictured are ready to be birthed and seem in pristine condition. Is it foolish to continue since I've seen green coloring, or since they appear to be fine now should I put them in the terrarium? Any help and/or information into what happened is greatly appreciated.

You might hear some different opinions on this one. . .

I'd throw away the one above;  it looks too risky.

If you have others that look clean, they might be worth fruiting.  Remember that non-sporulating mold can look white as well. . .it's only green where the mold spores are being produced.  If you want to go ahead with those jars, it might be a good idea to do a peroxide dunk beforehand.  Regardless, watch them carefully over the first few days.  Sometimes mycelium can totally win out over mold and you will get flawless fruiting.  More often you will get a delayed greening  :frown:
On the other hand, much is unknown about what cubes do with 'mycotoxins' that some molds contain [including some members of Aspergillus/Penicillium].  Personally, I don't think it's a huge risk, but it is something to think about.  Much better to be mold-free, of course.

Fruit it seperate from the others. It might produce, or the contam. might take over. I've seen it go both ways.

I tried to leave my signature but it didn't work...
By the way... Does anybody know how to get sharpie markers off of a computer screen?
