Cactus ID
    #2888320 - 07/14/04 01:33 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I'm always looking around for for different cacti and came across this one. From driving by, it looked like one of my San Pedros...but kinda deformed. It also has two parts that look like they've been cut off before. It has 8 ribs. Here are some pictures.

Looks like a trichocereus to me, 8 is quite a lot of ribs for a pachanoi.

Yeah, that was from driving by...I thought it was a trich. I only counted the ribs up close. My pedros have 5 & 6 ribs. Can you point out any online sources for cacti classification?

Cool..so it is a pedro. I drive around for garage sales on the weekend and have seen MANY possible trich. This one interested me because it looked like people have already had their way with it a few times. And it has some pups!

Oh, and I'm in California.

i must say i'm a bit perturbed that so many people seem to be advising you to take cuttings. is this growing on public property? it seems to me that it is in someone's yard. if it is, you should talk to the landowner and ask for a cutting. the odds of a yes answer in those situations where the cactus is many columned are realy quite good.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Don't worry...this was entirely for educational purposes! Every weekend I drive around looking at garage sales and I am always on the lookout for other people dabbling with ethnos...or public use of them. I take pictures...that's it!

2 months ago I ordered and traded for some San pedro and torch cuttings and seeds, from a shroomery post, and bouncing bear botanicals. I plan on growing them myself and using the ones I raised as my first mescaline/cacti experience.

All of my posts asking about certain cacti are just out of curiousity. I see MANY different cacti...and I'm just checking out my observations of magic ones!
