Making Iraq like America
    #2886515 - 07/13/04 02:45 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

If we bestow our bountiful way of life on these people will they:

Become obese and die of heart attacks at a much greater frequency?

Have unaffordable and outrageously-priced housing?

Be forced to watch stupid sit-coms and reality TV shows?

Become insecure (the women) and put saline bags in their bodies to boost self esteem?

I dont think it will ever happen.

the immense power and value of the land (or rather, whats beneath it) will always inspire fuedalistic struggles in its inhabitants, unless they are ruled with an iron fist.

all the religious bullshit connected to that particular real estate doesnt help the situation any either.

Oil will always be the big player there as long as we use it. But the hope is that they will begin to build so industry so that money can be disbursed outside the hands of the oil industry. You can be pessimistic but my hope (and the hope of anyone who truly wishes them well ) is that they can move back towards the cultural Mecca they once were.

Will their local/state/national governments be as idiotic as ours and establish counter-productive and moronic rent-control laws?

Despite the desires of the executives at the major broadcasting companies, Americans are not at the moment being forced to watch That 70's Show at gunpoint...to my knowledge.

That'd be a shame.

Arab women don't turn me on personally, but I doubt the Iraqi male population would mind.

Do you live in a world without money?

It is my opinion that having money is better than not having it. Do you know how I got the computer I type on? Money. How about the air conditioner that cools the room I am in, or the electricty to run it? Money. All in all, I think money is a great thing. In fact, I wish I had more of it. If you aren't to keen on money, than give me your share.

Capitalism uses something called the price mechanism to allocate scarce goods and resources. The more money that you have, the more scarce resources you can command. You want a six pack and a pack of smokes? Better have a little money. You want to buy high class hookers for me and all the rest of your friends? Better have a lot of money.

If more wealth was evenly distributed in Iraq and private markets are established, the standard of living of ordinary Iraqis will rise. Some psudeo intellectuals might not see that as progress, but don't expect them to give up their money, and don't expect them to leave the greatest nation in the history of mankind. They are quite content to sit in the comfort of our advanced society and our high standard of living and complain about reality TV shows that nobody makes them watch.

Love it or leave it already. If you think you can find a better deal than the red white and blue, nobody is stopping you. And say hi to Alec Baldwin when you get there.

How does money help you? How does money being controlled by more than one entity help? Cmon, if you can't see the benefit of power spread out amongst different public and private ventures helps than I can't tell you. FYI money = power. Private investment = money = power in the hands of the people.

That would be an improvement over the stupid culture they have now.

You forgot the option to stay and help tear it down.

The correct response to "Love it or leave it." is "Make me.".

You are not forced to do any of these things and I do none of them. So what is the crime to give them the option? The housing here is not all that expensive outside of the big cities btw.
