A mate of mine found these mushrooms down in cooma (NSW), him and i were both hoping for an ID, active or not we would like to know what these mushrooms are for future reference and also just for the sake of knowledge. thanks.

a. Habitat: NSW/Yass/Australia, growing from the roots of a dead gum tree near the water.

b. Gills: creamy brown, attached.

c. Measurements of cap and stem: Caps are average of 2cm accross, and the height is generally 2.5 cm, although this does vary significantly from smallest to largest.

d. Characteristics of the stem: Brown bruised black/grey blue, solid and of medium thickness, some bumps evident, almost like smooth spikes.

e. Characteristics of the cap: Brownish, somtimes black. Smooth but not completely. Some very wavy caps, convex and concave caps both present.

f. Spore Print: *in the process of taking*

g. Bruises: very dark color, black/grey with minimal blue.

h. Scent of mushroom: Friend says that they smell like nice button mushrooms, agaricus bisporus.

Images; these pics are pretty bad quality, so sorry, this may make it alot harder.

One thing you have left out is what is was growing out of. Pine needles? Wood chips? As far as "I" can tell, i dont think its anything active after looking at those pictures, but dont take my word for it, im no professional. After the spore print is done an ID will be alot easier. Wait for one of the mods to ID it for you. One more note, i am drying actives that i found today, which bruise very blue. One thing for concern is yours dont seem to bruise very much at all (blue that is.) Once again wait for someone else's opinion.

Peace
