According to this tek, substrate used is a PF-Cake, which is BRF and VERM.

Now, the casing layer can be anything you want. The easiest casing recipe is coco-coir mixed with verm to a ratio of 60/40. Ratio is not that important. No need to add lime or any ph buffer since coir and verm are pretty neutral anyway.

yes, I assume PF jars refers to BRF/verm but any grain can be cased I only deal with quart jars and half gallon jars once you learn to use a liquid mycellium tek you can go big
I have no idea why more people dont use half gallon jars its so easier to deal with them when doing a bulk in particular
anyway my point is if you are doing casings hop up to grains a quart of millet colonizes in less time than a half pint of BRF and takes the same amount of innoculant
for your first casing use pure verm it more resistant to contams since its basicly a fluffy rock

Should  I add a bottom layer of Verm like mentioned in the tek? and surely all casing layers must be sterlised by PC!?

i dont think using brf in casing is the best idea. try peat moss \ verm \ peat based potting soil , straw\manure or something like that instead,

i use a bottom layer with perlitte and some verm.

Yes you can sterilize the casing layers but it is not a must, I have used unsterilized casing layers with succsess.

Also I have found out that good thick casing layers are best, it takes longer time before it fruits but damn the sizes of the ones i have had latly on extra thick casings have been amazing, the biggest was 46 grams alone.

While on the subjekt, how deep(or high) should the substrate layer be? and how many cakes is good to use per casing?

Well In the tek it says  bottom layer 1/2 inch Verm, then a raito of 1:4 casing to substrate layer.  :balloon:
