visibility of contams in myc karo water
    #2882733 - 07/12/04 05:07 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Is it more difficult to spot contams in a liquid then in a brown rice/verm jar say? I ask because a friend of a friend had some myc he grew in karo water, used this to inject many jars, and all were contaminated. After all were contamed, the container still looked like it had uncontamed perfect myc. Any tips in spotting contams in a liquid? Or should it be just as visible as in a jar? which would mean my foaf just screwed up somewhere else, many times.

Spotting contamination in a liquid medium can be very difficult sometimes. Much more difficult than doing it with a jar.
In fact, most people will only know their karo water is contaminated when they use it in the jars.

Yeah, mold spores can sit in the liquid culture and not germinate until youve used it to innoculate. What sort of contams did you get? Bacterial can be hard to spot too, but you might be able to smell it.

He got mostly a strange yellowish contam. One he hadn't ever seen before.
