My Water World:

I am a second time grower. I have scoured this forum for ideas about making an easily maintained and relatively inexpensive grow chamber that I can just "set and forget". There were more than a handful, but I never came across this idea. So I experimented with it and it worked great. It creates perfect humidification, plenty of air exchange, and there is no mess. On top of all that good stuff, it looks like a cold fission reactor when activated and illuminated with a blue light. I would like to know if anyone else has tried this or what you think about the idea.

In the illustration you can see I used a 10 gallon aquarium as the chamber body, 13" X 23" Plexiglas for the lid, 2 air pumps with dual air emitters, a light timer, and a blue aquarium light. My cake stand was custom designed using silver hangers and wire mesh. This was a little complex. You could make one out of whatever you want as long as you keep the cakes well above the water. I filled the aquarium to about 3 inches with distilled water. The holes were poked in the Plexiglas lid with a soldering iron, although you can just heat up a screw driver that is the same size of standard air pump tubing. The four holes in the middle of the lid are there for ventilation. When you poke these holes, make them the exact same size as the air pump tubes so the same amount of air that you are pumping in can escape.

I forgot to add that a drip shield can be introduced into this system if needed. Also, a few drops of food coloring in the water is an interesting effect...
