I dont understand. If the heater is underwater it wont be able to go over 100C so how would it melt your incubator and burn down your house? Also, they wont last more than 5 minutes if they are out of the water.

Id say use a nice adjustable fish tank heater with a built in thermostat so you can just set it to 82F and forget about it. Just mount it on the side or bottom of the tank so it is not touching the plastic. Heaters are designed to not be touching any walls because they can break that way. Buy a nice heater and it will have better heat distribution and control. Also, all heaters are equipped with non-replaceable circuit breakers that trip if it gets too hot.

My heater sets about 1/4 or 3/8 off the bottom tub and the inner tub sets on glasses maybe 2 in. from heater.

Personal I think a heating pad would be the greater fire hazard.
Not designed for that kind of use(constantly). Has no thermostat

Got my heater @ ebay
Won Pro Heat(IC Aquarium Heater)
It has a independent thermostic. Can be put with jars or in water.
Keep mine with jars.
Don't need to get more than 30 to 50 watts.Tub in tub is not that much water. Just depends on how cold it gets at your place in winter.
Mine is 50 watt. I started using mine in middle of winter. It made growing mcy just like the book said.
What you going to do for a furiting chamber?

well, like i said i haven't done it yet but i've been reading on here for months, and basically what i have in mind so far is to use the tub in tub and place my casings in there, i wanted to find tubs big enough to hold the 12 half pint cakes which i was going to case, perlite for humidity and water heater for heat ( i'm sure i got teks mixed up, but hey atleast i'm trying ) over here we hit below 20 degrees celsius in the winter ,without wind factor ( obviously doesn't apply in a closet lol) and up to 30 or 35 degrees celsius in the summer, with very high humidity... anyway, can you tell me what i've got wrong?? and suggest me according to your knowledge? i'm buying everything i need this friday and i need to make a list for myself, and i'm also ordering my spore syringe on friday, from where? i aint sure yet

ok, i just spent a while in the faq section and realised that casings don't need perlite, instead the misting is good, but i can't yet find the temp shit, is it ok if i use tub in tub and regulate temp at 76f, so far thats what i understand, i'm off again to the faq lol

Hmmmmm, wasnt thinkin about the heating pad not supposed to be on constantly. DUH. Fixin that REAL QUICK when I get home. Thx Kapt.

But in a post that may help you. The tub/tub incubator with the fish heater is great. Keeps my jars at a constant 85degrees.
Just make sure you get a submersible heater. Wal-Mart has good, cheap ones. I bought one at petsmart for like 30$ (I wanted the good one), then went to Wal-Mart for other stuff, and they had the exact one for 12$ less.

The tub/tub is for incubating during colonization. I am pretty sure its good for incubating casings as well as jars. When they are in the terrarium for fruiting, they dont need the extra heat, as they should be around 75 degrees.

I have an idea. Get a dimmer switch and hook it up to a heating pad. Those things are pretty crappy out of the box... they have like 3 heat settings.

It's really simple, just keep the fish tank heater submerged with a weight (like a metal U bolt) and sit the heater on top of a piece of cement sheet. Listen up, cement sheet won't burn even if a blow torch is blasted on it. With cement sheet there's no way your tub will ever melt, even if all the water dried up and the fishtank heater went cherry hot and smoked away in there. Safe enough for ya?
