the advertising industry's lack of integrity
    #2881804 - 07/12/04 12:56 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

inspired by  this post.

where has all of the integrity gone?  was there any to begin with?

the entire advertising industry is shameful in my opinion.

been to the movies lately?  now the play COMMERCIALS at the beginning of movies!  seriously!  car commercials, food, etc.. it's amazing what money does to peoples' values.  i think that it's only a matter of time before they start slipping in commercial "breaks"  right into the movie itself!  they already do it on an unconcious level (when you see an actor drinking PEPSI or some bullshit like that).  just how watered down do these directors think they can make their movies before people get pissed?

it's terrible how they can stretch a movie that's 1hour 30mins into 3 hours on TV.  that's half commercials.  would you ever sit an watch an hour and a half of advertisements that you don't really give a shit about?

one of these days i fear that i'll turn on the TV and the president will be standing there.....drinking a pepsi....
....and i'll move to europe.

they slip advertisements anywhere they can.. even in places that they CANT.  magazines like PEOPLE and TIME are probably 40% comprised of ads.  is it a wonder why the table of contents is on page 35?  34 pages of ADS make TIME and PEOPLE money.  they also make me feel disgusted to live in a place that is proud of that kind of crap.

although i  do love those generous people at AOL that keep sending me free coasters in the mail.  what?!  those are ads?  ..................those bastards.

anyone seen that new dashboard confessional video??  youre not missing much.  basically it's an ad for the new spiderman movie with a song in there (i think).  i remember when i was in high school i went down town and saw him play in a coffee shop that held 50 people with a band from my school.  the show was good.
now?  he's on the "honda civic tour".  :shake:
i dont listen to that genre of music much anymore so it doesnt really affect me too much... but i mean c'mon now..

one of these days i'll be driving down the street and a fire truck will cruise by with Oprah's face on the side.

speaking of oprah..... ever wonder how she picks the items to give to the crowd after every show?  i don't.

ever wonder how directors choose what cars to put in their movies?  i don't.

and dont even get me started on pop-ups...........

sigh... and the sad thing about it all is that it evidently is making money for these greedy people.  the rest of the world is sure to follow.  i guess there's nowhere to hide.

bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch
(i like to bitch)

i guess it's true about all of that hell-in-a-handbasket stuff. :hellfire:

any thoughts?
:shake:

fuck ads, commercials, billboards and consumerism!

every thought you let them send into your head is one less thought of your own. the entire purpose of the advertising industry is to replace human individuality with profitable conformity and replace the human creative potential with consumerism and fear.

Solutions: turn of your tv, at least during commercials. Dont get your music from mtv or much music or somethin, realize what ads are intended for and analyze every message for destructive messages, dont be afraid to act, dress or in any way be different...

or just build a hermit hut and a veggie garden out in the fuckin wilderness and spend your life free.

Yeah, that would be great until you have a 5 foot parasite slowly consuming you from the inside and the only doctor you can find tells you to dance naked around a fire backwards 3 times holding a baboon heart in your mouth. At least you can pay him with sex from your wife or daughter instead of money.

Now, technically, is it really the advertising industry that is the problem here? They are doing what they get paid to do. Its the people with the content that are putting advertisements into their shit. Radios and television have commericals so they can make money. They open slots and companies that need advertisment pay the advertising industry to design advertisements to fill those slots.

I guess Clear Channel owns a lot of billboards and everything... that's sorta crazy...  Clear Channel Outdoors

Of course! It is a double-arrow. If no one was swallowing the lies (no pun intended) that sugar-water = fun and Budweiser = babes, then the industry would have to try another tactic.

It is no different here. People WANT to be sold lies about aliens, third-eyes, glowing orbs, etc. which is why those types of threads are highly popular. We are begging: "Please feed me a fantasy. I am so very hungry."

Probably from an emptiness in "normal" life that needs to be filled with tall tales of alien visitors and such to make life more spicy.

As the saying from the '60s goes, you need the holy triumverate of "sex, drugs AND rock & roll". All three aspects are necessary to fill the void.
