inverting casings
    #2881457 - 07/12/04 10:36 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

someone had a vision and thoughts that if a 3" casing had finished its second flush, seeing how it has pulled away from the walls, could one invert that into another container and case that side and continue on? Any unforseen obsticles that didnt materialize in the vision?

this works. expect pins to continue to form on the previous top now bottom side. i'm not 100% on doing this indoors but i have seen this done many times with outdoor bricks (precolonized bins dumped outdoors and cased). many times green starts to form on the underside where it stays wet. flipping the brick over will neutralise the green and doesn't affect fruiting at all.

I have inverted casings after the 2nd flush and I had good results. Some still grew from the bottom corners of the casing.

but alas, after that second flush, you won't have much nutrients left in that substrate. But feel free to try it.

Actually, you should have plenty of nutes left after 2nd flush. Personally though, you should have no trouble getting 3-4 flushes off the first side, so I'd wait until then when you've really tortured the top sides surface. Then scrape, flip, case and rehydrate.

Regardless you can flip casings and fruit the bottom side. If you feel like you NEED to do it after only 2 flushes, I'd put some thought into why you aren't able to get more flushes.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

There was a dream to behold that this indeed will work as the popcorn substrate is still thick after 3 and 4 flushes which have slowed to almost none now. Those Tiland species dont go much after the third.
If any more dreams are caught in the dream cather those will be shared. Thinking that a cold shock might be in order as well after a fresh moist casing is applied.

AFOF had a similar dilemma and decided to invert the case into another covered container of water/peroxide to ~1/3 the casing depth. He left this for 24hrs and flipped it back into the original container top-dressed with coir/gypsum then into the incubator for 3 days covered in foil airing 1-2 times a day.
He says it worked a treat!

But alas, flipping over the casing has absolutely nothing at all to do with lack of nutrients. You lose nutrients after each flush regardless fo whether or not you flip - so I don't understand your point..... At all.
