Hunting in the extreme northeast.
    #2880349 - 07/12/04 02:06 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with hunting in the ME, NH, VT region. I've recently decided to test my luck and see what I can find around here. I'm just curious as to hear what some other more experienced people have come across when hunting in this area. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

There are a lot of great species, but if you are looking for something active, the only thing i find consistantly are p. subbalteatus.

Sorry for jumping the gun there, I've read numerous articles and have familiarized myself with the ones I feel would be most common around here. I was just looking for some first hand information to make sure I have the right ideas.

yeah your best bet is to look for subs. or caerulipes the caerulipes grow out in the woods but from what ive heard are most abundant in the smokey mountains

If I was in any of those states (and I know I'll be spanked for this) I would try hard to find libs. It is not ridiculous to assume their being there- and I think them not being found is a result of little effort in those localities.

I think i agree, if they are reported from NY, i dont see why they couldnt spread to nearby states. The temp is not much different. I wish i had access to more cow pastures.. :/

I've been thinking about trying to hunt down some locals that might know whats up, have a sneaking feeling thats gonna be harder than it sounds though. Not much for a mycology scene around here, sadly.

Ah, I missed this question....the short answer is.....not really. I have found Pan. Subs before. There are said to be a good amount of actives around like Libs and Blue-Feet. Gymnopilus species I heard are very difficult to differentiate between the actives and non-actives so I don't look for them. I need to move. The end.

I'm in VT, and I've heard there are active mushrooms to be found in north of Burlington in the area next to Lake Champlaign. Haven't checked it out yet, but I think I will. I'm not sure what species are supposed to be there, but I've seen a lot of Panaeoli around on lawns and dung.
