casing with composted cotton burrs?
    #2880050 - 07/12/04 12:52 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

After a first stab at PF cakes that are incubating at the moment, I'd like to shift to cased grain. After seeing some of the awesome grow logs, it gets me all excited.

Anyway, my question is whether a mulch-type product like composted cotton burrs (the course kind) would be a good casing material. I plan to use rye for the substrate, using Magash's rye tek.

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm pretty sure it's better to steer away from mulches and ferts etc. as they contain nutrients contams can grow on before your myc gets to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks. I think I'll invest in a brick of coco coir instead. The last thing I want to do is encourage contams! No issues with pH either...
