"I chose to do it!" or did you???
    #2879065 - 07/11/04 07:43 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Theres a thread going about the unconcious mind that inspired me to post this.

When it comes to purchasing products in a supermarket how much does advertising really affect you?  You may think it has little to no affect on what you purchase, maybe this will change your mind on how easily someone can be 'programmed' to make a seemingly 'random' decision.

A guy in a shop was shown what appeared to be a random pattern on a peice of paper and then asked to think of a completely random product in the shop and to go and puchase that item.  As he went to collect his item Derren Brown (the guy explaining mind control) stuck "VINEGAR" on his back.  Sure enough, the guy walked around the store and purchased some vinegar!  When confronted he said it had been his random choice to choose the vinegar.

Derren explained that the pattern he showed him was at the front of his memory thus being the first 'random' pattern he walked in, around the store, which led to the vinegar!

In a different episode he asked 2 advertisment designers to make him an advert, after they'd designed it, he pulls out a design exactly the same, as if he had read their minds.

But once agian he implanted it.  The taxi journey the 2 guys took to work was rigged with all sorts of suggestions such as pictures in shop windows etc  The guys hadn't conciously noticed but the images had been implanted ready for them to 'design'!

Its amazing how easily we can be led and until you watch a program like that you would never realise.  :stoned: :stoned: :stoned:

this is why its so important for me to pursue changes of scenery. Your enviroment strongly affects your mood and mind, and your behaviour. Thats why im heading for the lake where the enviroment consists of huge blue skys, beautifull lakes, evergreens and animals, rather than mcdonalds ads, bullshit commercials, radio pratter, and yeah basically living in a city is a constant commercial for consumerism, fear and obediance.

It is possible to be free of these traps and live as an independent, free willed person in a metropolis setting, but only if we are fully aware of the motives and methods of those who want to influence our minds for profit, and evaluate every message sent to us in that light.

There's no write up, what I saw was a TV show (about the only thing on TV you would ever catch me watching!). This link has some interesting information on how he performs some tricks, check it out!

Wow! This is why I don't watch TV and shop in the natural food stores. Regular grocery stores, especially Target, make me stay longer, and wander around in circles....I wonder exactly what they do...

When I was studying mass communications and advertising at the local university I came across several sources that said we view anywhere between 1500-3000 ads on an average day...

That is, you can see all the bilboards as you drive to work/school/store, in the store you see ads everywhere, then when you watch TV you are slammed constantly.. same with other media outlets. Most people's clothes are advertisements.

It all adds up. Fills your thoughts, controls your minds! haha
well, sets(influeces) your agenda anyways...
