There's definitely been a bit of pervasive fear that the ghost of MtGox will be crashing the market once the distributions go out.  But I won’t be selling into the distribution, as I don't have any other better options for the capital (nor do I want to pay a huge tax bill).  Creditors have already received a small sum cash payment  (~US$5000), and the remaining distributions will be split between “early lump sum” and “final payment” creditor options (those opting for final payment likely have an additional 1-5 years to wait to receive the bulk of their expected-slightly-larger repayment as litigation wraps up).

Creditors were further given an option to receive repayment as cash only or a mix of cash and crypto.  So it is possible that anyone who was dead set on cashing out right away, may have already asked the trustee to cash out on their behalf, which would likely be handled via over the counter sales and not effect market price as much.

That's exactly what somebody who's about to dump on our arses would say :crankey:

No but seriously I'm happy for you after all those years. I know I would sell partially just to lock in some of those profits. Idk your local laws but wouldn't that count as long-term holding on which you pay way less taxes? Technically you've been holding those btc for over a decade now lol.

And of course I missed the effing bottom :crankey:

Yeah, it would be a long term capital gain, which is taxed at 20%, if I recall correctly.  But I believe there's still significant upside to be had, so I have no reason to sell.  I also have no debts, own my own home, etc... so I literally mean it when I say that I can't think of a better place to keep the capital, for the time being.  I ain't about to buy a goddamn Lambo for cryin' out loud. :tongue2:

Bitcoin through $71K this morning.  I moved up several rungs of the bid ladder I have had hanging out on JitoSOL.  Did an instant swap on about 50% of my idle funds this morning, to bring my SOL position back up to full size, more or less.

Got some fills on JitoSOL @ $175 and $177 (equivalent to ~$156 and ~$158 SOL), that I had hanging out as limit orders on Juipter.  JitoSOL rocks 'cause it auto-compounds a 8%+ annual yield into the token.

It's like staking your SOL, but with a higher yield that doesn't payout via separate, taxable transactions.  This is why why JitoSOL is priced higher than SOL (roughly 1.12x currently), and because of the continuously compounding yield, it will continue to increase its multiplier against SOL over time.  It is also entirely liquid, in contrast to traditional staking which requires you to wait until the end of each network "epoch" to access the liquidity of your staked tokens (i.e. be able to sell them or use them for other purposes such as additional DeFi yields or debt positions).  Epochs last a few days.

SOL at its 50 day and its "fat green line" is a fine place to buy, IMHO.

As we know with crypto, it could definitely suffer some unexpected and violent downside volatility, but the fat green line has proven buyable all year, and in relative sense, Solana is still valued at one-fifth the value of the Ethereum network (even less if you want to consider Ethereum layer-2 valuations).  They both feature similar ecosystems, however SOL has been experiencing higher growth on many metrics, is orders of magnitude cheaper to use with regard to its fees (a few cents per transaction vs a minimum of a few bucks), transaction finality is faster (often seconds vs minutes), and sports orders of magnitude more capacity (tens of thousands of transactions/second vs 10-15).

The writing is on the wall and from what I see it reads: Solana has the most apparent upside of any major crypto network. Could tag its 200 just under $130 if the market gets sporty, but I'll still be in it.

Love it Geo. Is there any downside or additional risk that you see in having all your SOL as JitoSOL? Im currently staking on my ledger, but thats at like 5%.
Edit, my apologies for the wall of text, but figured id answer my own question here: (from GPT)

Holding JitoSOL (jSOL) instead of SOL to capture additional staking benefits comes with both benefits and potential downsides or additional risks. Here are some key points to consider:

Benefits
Staking Rewards: By holding jSOL, you earn staking rewards without having to lock up your SOL, allowing you to benefit from the rewards accrued.
Liquidity: jSOL allows you to maintain liquidity, enabling you to participate in DeFi activities while still earning staking rewards.
Ease of Use: Managing staking through jSOL can be more user-friendly compared to direct staking, as it abstracts the complexities of staking.

Potential Downsides and Additional Risks
Smart Contract Risk: jSOL relies on the smart contracts deployed by Jito Labs. If there are bugs or vulnerabilities in these smart contracts, you could potentially lose your funds.
Custodial Risk: By using Jito Labs' staking service, you are entrusting them with your SOL. Any issues with their service, such as mismanagement or security breaches, could impact your jSOL.
Price Fluctuations: While jSOL is intended to appreciate relative to SOL due to staking rewards, its value can fluctuate in secondary markets. The liquidity and demand for jSOL can affect its price, potentially leading to temporary discrepancies between jSOL and SOL value.
Dependency on Jito Labs: The functioning of jSOL depends on Jito Labs' infrastructure and operational stability. Any issues with their service could impact your staking rewards or access to your tokens.
Regulatory Risk: As with any crypto asset, there is a regulatory risk. Changes in regulations could impact the use and value of staking derivatives like jSOL.
Market Risk: If the DeFi platforms or markets where jSOL is traded experience issues or downturns, it could affect the liquidity and value of jSOL.
Summary
While holding jSOL can provide additional benefits through staking rewards and liquidity, it also introduces smart contract, custodial, market, and regulatory risks. It's important to evaluate these risks and consider your risk tolerance before deciding to convert your SOL to jSOL. Diversifying your holdings and staying informed about the developments related to Jito Labs and the Solana ecosystem can help mitigate some of these risks.
