I've never used straight popcorn, but have used cracked corn for *cough cough* many years. I've sent spores to CC far too many times. Agreed, they love that shit. Don't worry about cracked kernels. Send it and forget it.

Trying new SFDs. Ive always used sticker patches. I got new ones. Maybe 1/8" thick. One side is felt-like, the other is kind of plasticy. Im planning on putting them between the lid and ring of two piece metal lids with a 1/4" hole. Does it matter which side of the sfd goes up?

Is the sensible thing to do here truly just to toss the tub? I think otherwise this might have been close to fruiting.

Damn. It's not the loss of the time, supplies or yield that frustrates me. It's the inability to be totally sure why this happened.

My good sir may I suggest that you no longer keep these tubs on the ground. I can’t help but notice it’s sitting on the carpet. Which is a magnet and sponge for contamination.

Are these Nats? If so...hmmm...maybe move it somewhere else and let it ride until it either fruits or turns green. But yes, off the floor is a good suggestion.
I have to admit when I looked at this on my phone I thought your carpet was the surface lol!

I always do them shiny side out. My theory is that the shiny side is the hydrophobic part so I let it protect the fluffy part.

Buckdog said: Lol does anyone in here pasteurize their coco coir? I'm basically arguing with this guy on Facebook, he made a post talking about how he keeps failing after he spawns. He's trying to tell me that pasteurizing is cleaner than bucket tek, I mean maybe? But regardless he still has to squeeze it to field capacity manually which leave room for error in my opinion. He seems to think cooking it on the stove is easier than doing bucket tek, and I just can't understand it lol. He says his grain is fine so it must be his sub, or maybe bad conditions. But anyways does anyone here think pasteurizing is easier than bucket tek? And does anyone actually do it with coir?
You could pour cold water in a bucket with coir, there is zero need to "pasteurize." He's failing because his spawn is off.

That shouldn't be a problem at all. Contamination happens from dirty spawn, not from a tub being on the ground.

GenesisCorrupted said: Get it to 15 psi for 45 minutes. Have an inch or two of water on the bottom and don’t stress too much about running out of water. As long as you don’t have the pressure way too high that won’t happen. Don’t let the jars touch the bottom of the PC have them elevated on a rack or jar Tops.
45 minutes might be ok for a pint...but even those I'd feel more comfortable doing 90 minutes. For quarts I do 120 minutes, 150 if I have time.
Use the amount of water specified in the manual rather than eyeballing it. For the Presto 23 qt canner, that's 3 quarts of water. Add a couple tablespoons of vinegar if you have hard water and you don't want spots on your glass. Turn on the heat without the rocker, start a 10-15 minute timer when the locking mechanism raises and it's spewing steam, put the rocker on when the timer goes off, and let it get up to pressure. Set a timer for 2 hours (or whatever processing time you need for what you're preparing), and adjust the heat to keep the pressure without excessive hissing or rocking. (You can tape some quarters on or use washers inside the rocker to make it rock at 17-18 psi, which will make it much less noisy near 15-16.) When the time goes off, turn off the heat. Let the pressure come down on its own.
All of that last paragraph other than modifying the rocker is in the manual. It's worth reading. You can of course ignore the warning about it not being intended for making mushroom spawn.
BOD's Easy AF how to use your pressure cooker for mycology TEK has more detail. Stipe also has a great write up on autoclave cycle verification (doing so on several vessels including an Instant Pot). (Edit to link to the post I intended to.)
HOLY FUCKING SHIT Supposed to do 15 min of steam AFTER THE THING POPS UP. Shit I have been watching steam pour out and then it pops up, so I figure that's time And I have been being super careful and PCing for longer...seems like I miss-read something a while back. Thanks By the way, phaeton, did you used to post about cacti and canna growing in a European drugs forum a decade ago, maybe a bit more? Just wondering

You can start the timer as soon as steam is spewing out the vent. Starting it when the lid locks just takes out some guess work. But yeah, if you're putting the weight on as soon as the lid locks, you're probably under-venting.
I still manage to kill hardy plants like rosemary. Never been a cannabis or cactus grower.

I try to err on the side of venting a bit excessively. I really like to eliminate as many vectors for contamination as possible. I reeeeeaaaally like to know that it's my sloppy SAB work and nothing else
And it is sloppy.
