Confused about fruiting

I made a post a couple days ago asking about contamination and my worries were washed away. Well, I'm worried again. One of my cakes absolutely exploded and now the mushroom shapes are getting crazy. This is my first grow, but I haven't seen anything like this online. Also, the perlite underneath the mushrooms is turning purplish. Very confused.
I've been misting 3 times a day. The SGFC is in the middle of a room. The cakes are in indirect sunlight. I'm not sure if any other info is relevant.

Your perlite is a different color because the mushrooms dropped spores there.
If there is green mold on those cakes or mushroom bases, toss it outside ASAP. You don't want sporulating contaminants in your grow space.

Thank you for the quick reply. Green is not a color I am seeing at all. There are blues and purples, though. I had no idea that spores would drop that quickly. Should I be harvesting before spores drop?
I planned on waiting for the food dehydrator that I ordered to arrive on Thursday.

Some spores won't harm, don't worry. Harvest these and store them in the fridge. Don't use ziplocks or similar for storage. I wouldn't exceed 5 days, but you should have your dehydrator earlier. Dehydrators just have one setting for our needs: Cranked up max for 24 hours

I couldn't believe how quickly the spores dropped either. The caps opened up and they were changing color and turning upward within an hour or two. What I've seen as conventional wisdom for when to harvest is right after the veil breaks, so I've been trying to be more on the ball about picking as soon as that veil breaks.

Sometimes they'll even have a fuckload of spores before you actually get any close to the veil breaking

Decapitate one or two of them and make some spore prints. You can put em to agar and make more mushrooms! Besides, they just plain look really cool.

spores dropping is not a bad thing, as far as when to harvest, that is matter of personal preference. Some folk harvest before the veils break some wait till the cap flattens out more. I would also use a water tub and ditch the perlite. If I need to store fresh shrooms for any reason I place them in a paper bag in put in the fridge, as Goatrider stated they should be fine for 5 days or so in there.

In addition to that: Mushrooms have a high IQ air draft system, which allows them to distribute spores in all directions. That's why you often see the tallest with a spore laden cap.
