I found this at work the other day, I live in bavaria germany and we have had temperate weather lately. This thing was about 3/4 of a foot across and light brown. No gills, but what looked like a spong underneath. Any help would be appreciated.

Those look like Polyporus squamosus, Dryad's Saddle. They are technically edible, although I understand rather flavorless and chewy. They should be growing directly from wood, in this case probably buried.

Happy mushrooming!

I'm inclined to agree with TM. The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the colour; squamosus should be a pleasant brown/tan colour, definitely not white. But it's possible this specimen is bleached by the sun or maybe the photo is a bit overexposed.

Over exposed, it was a light tan to darker brown were the crown had cracked.
