What would happen to the US if Canada staunched the flow all of the commodities i just mentioned?
I'm not even talking abour economics. The US would have to invade Canada to survive, not to mention keep its economy alive. However, Canada could survive completely on its own agriculture (remember New York City has a larger population than Canada as a whole), fuel and lumber.
I don't want to play a 'my daddy can beat up your daddy' game, but you are very off in your argument. You may be our main supplier of the above mentioned things, but you are not our ONLY supplier of the above mentioned things. Our economy would take a slight, perhaps moderate immediate dip followed by a return to normalcy as exports from other countries increased and our strategic reserves kicked in. Your country however, would not make out so well. The fact that we purchase so much of your shit would leave just about the entirety of your non-service/manufacturing base absolutely devestated. While the United States would have to find new places to buy some goods at the expense of some short-term discomfort, you would have to somehow find new consumers(keeping in mind the current balance of the world market) as your country as a whole becomes poorer and poorer with each passing day.

I'm not talking about your economy surviving. I'm talking about YOU surviving. The US would resort to force. The fact is that the US doesn't have much of its own resources anymore. Its been squandered on urban sprawls and your water is too polluted to drink.

Good luck getting treatment plants working effectively and efficiently to support the population of the US (especially since you wouldn't have water to give to your workers...)

I'm beginning to think you have no idea what you're talking about. It supplies the world with about 25% of the worlds fresh water. Read a book, sheesh.

The most appropriate comparison for Canada nd the U.S is California as far as economy and population size. It is true that we are one of the largest sources of fresh water in the world.
Here are fun water facts from Canada. FUN

I will say that Canada has some of the most beautiful lakes and streams. And to be fair to no-tone, Canada shares a large portion of the great lakes.

Er...actually no. The city I live in, with 350,000 people, gets it's water directly from Lake Huron...
Toronto gets most of its water from Lake Ontario, if my memory is correct.
