Debating checking out the sphere, with tickets and hotel/flights/taxi it'd be about $1500 for the weekend for the wife and I before food/other stuff... getting there super late Fri and leaving first thing Sunday. Not sure if I can justify it but everything I've heard has made it sound worth it

dude the buddy were thinking of doing a fear and loathing night, just dipping in for the day, catch the show, party for a while and catch a flight home for work day

Yeah I've heard it's really soft. Any of the videos or streams I've watched the music has been drowned out by some douche screaming endlessly for 3 hours straight to his friend about the stock market or some shit, one had a drunk chick who felt the need to loudly narrate all the visuals as they were happening for the whole thing, there's people screaming at other people not to stand/dance. It's wild
I think since it's a vegas show most people there don't care about the dead and just want to see a show at the sphere. I'd lose it if I spent all that money/time to go and got surrounded by that bullshit. I don't tune that kind of stuff out well especially when tripping

I think you hit it on the head. It has become more of a general interest type thing than it used to be. Plus John Mayer has a large fanbase that doesn't really intersect with the traditional dead fanbase. It wasn't an issue with Trey cause the Phish fans get it, but John's fans are a little more mainstream.
I think a lot of the newer fans may be unaware of the dead ethos. Imagine someone telling you to sit down as TMNS ramps up. Mid tier cover bands are where its at, small crowds of good people who know what's up in laid back venues without security hassle but still excellent music. The visuals seem cool and I'd love to see Bobby and the boys but frankly I just don't think it's something I'd really want to do.

It's your clothes. Their added mass increases your gravitational field and attracts negative waves. Next time your tripping at a public concert and can't tune it out, just strip naked.

That would probably actually work well to get rid of any nearby annoyances
There's no laws in Vegas right?

Iโve been three of the weekends.
Let my wifeโs parents use our tickets for two of the weekends and let our girlfriends family go last weekend. (We traveling to watch the Oilers games)
Iโll be going all four of the last weekends.
Rumor has it more August dates to come.
If you have the means to go, do it. Fantastic venue and the boys are killing it.

I'm going to a small campout festival next month that's a lot of dead cover bands, really looking forward to it

These are the ones I look forward to all year. We only have a couple in my area but they're small enough and tightly-knit enough that you know what to expect. Consistently good music, and no rules because everybody leaves everybody else alone and behaves considerately. Cheap food and drinks, a spirit of camaraderie, no security or any of that.
The Grateful Dead may be gone and the big outdoor venues like Alpine may not allow camping anymore but its in these small ma and pa fests that the spirit of the dead lives on.
