HEYO so I decided to visit my local park as I waited for my weed guy just for the fucks of it AND COULDNT BELIVE MY EYES I saw this small patch of lighter looking “wood chips” I saw from a far and noticed this glory view

Brother I am from New Jersey, central to be exact I saw someone mention Assupink!? Which gave me inspiration bc I literally went there the last time it was rainy like 2-3 days ago and didn’t find dick
I was very weary of these bc the stem was so thick and full and I was sure I needed hollow stem
However it’s been bout 5-8 minutes since I cut this big chunky boy and there’s no doubt It smells like it too

SO now my question is, how do I keep this patch alive!?? How can I spread the mycelium??? How can I help them prosper to other good chips near it How can I start my own local patch!?!
Thank you guys for all the help you’ve given me and a lot of credit has to go to this thread May god bless where you walk 🙏

Cut off the stem butts. Put into mulch. That’s it.

First step is to dehydrate them. How? The best way is to buy a dehydrator, fan dry them until you can get or make a dehydrator. Do you have a space heater?

I dry them with a space heater and then finish up in the dehydrator. If they go into the dehydrator too wet they end up black. I store in a Tupperware container over anhydrous calcium chloride (damp rid).

The bottom half of stems will grow new mycelium even if you don’t see any

Honestly glad most of this rain is missing us. We’ve had enough. Ovoids will go bad fast in the field when it’s too wet

As long as sir ovoid is a Marxist that wants to destroy society. Now that’s a throwback, I miss that Koods signature quote.

We’re not done Koods… depending on which short range model you look at, you may be getting another .5 to 2” of rain by mid morning tomorrow.

Got fucking soaked today lmao and the trails were a muddy mess, got a few decent ovoids but a good bit of them were a bit past prime. I hate to say it Milkyway but looking at the radar and this forecast all I can say is I hope we get a bit of reprieve between rains so things can dry up a little bit before we get dumped on again. GFS shows a day or two of relief before some major wet starts picking up again but we'll see.

Do y'all have any input on this lil mulch setup i got going on? Got some stem butts taking to the cardboard, and some dead grass to top the mulch and stem butts beneath.

Glad to see some success for people here! Unfortunately for me, not so much...
...near rivers/streams (CHECK) ...box elders and japanese knotweed grass (CHECK) ...right time of season Mid-May (CHECK) ...finally got lots of rain last week (4 and 3 days ago)... (CHECK)
I'm finding a LOT of mushrooms, just not ovoids. Dryads, Deer Mushrooms, Mycena's, orange dyers, golden chantarelles, funeral bell, argocybe, inky caps, etc. I'm spotting some of these solo tiny mushrooms from what I would think is far away (~30-50 feet). I clear my area and ground all around me then try to perch up on something and get an overview of the ground then head from debris pile to pile checking below tall grass/etc along the way.
I genuinely don't think I'm just "missing" them, but who knows I guess. I'm in the northern part of OH so of course there's the back of my mind going "maybe your temperate zone is just slow and you need to wait until the end of may..." but like, I know others in middle/southern OH have been finding them for weeks at this point.
I guess this is just another layer of induction? Frustration...? lol
Welcome any and all tips. I've posted my habitat pics before and several people said they looked like the right spots. Other than traveling south (which is what my current plan is) I don't really know what else to do. I'm all setup with my box elder wood chip flower beds and dehydrator, just need the main course!

Northern Ohio is less than optimal. There are no observations on iNaturalist within 60 miles of Lake Erie in Ohio

Did you try to take a spore print? Sometimes spores are less apparent until later. Either way, it's good to see a report from ky. I was afraid it had gotten too hot down this way! I may try again tomorrow.
