Hi everyone!
Almost a month ago, I did work with some agar plates I had ordered online. I don't remember where or who I had bought them from. I've got supplies to make my own agar on the way, but I just bit the bullet and ordered some pre-made ones online.
3 of the 5 plates I did an agar transfer from a really old colonized plate I had from last year and, well, they were garbage by that point.
The remaining two plates, I decided to try dropping some of my GT spores I had from one of my very first grows from last year. I almost forgot I had the print stored away. Glad I kept it just in case!
Here we are, several weeks later, and I am led to believe what I have on the plates are a form of tomentose mycelium growth. They have a slight cotton-candy like to them as they are not completely flush with the agar and have some volume to them. Seeing as contamination grows quicker than mycelium does, I am led to believe that these plates are fine? All 3 other plates that I used from an old colonized agar plate showed contamination within the first few days, however, these 2 plates that I dropped spores on stayed clean (as far as I can tell).
The agar has turned an orange-red hue where what I believe to be mycelium has eaten for nutrition. If these are fine, I plan to do a couple more transfers from these plates to ensure I have a clean and safe culture to put to grain in the coming weeks.
Thoughts? Opionions? Lovely weather we are having in the PNW.

I believe that is the mycelium consuming the dye as well. I would take transfers anywhere from the 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock regions of both those plates.

That is Tomentose growth and yeah the mycelium loves to chew up the coloring within the agar plates. Make sure to transfer from the fastest leading edges and away from contamination.
