~ I must have a knack for finding bull ants defending subs
~ stem butts, excess mycelium and manky caps ready to be buried in fresh substrate.
Psilocybe alutacea.

Amanita muscaria.

Inactives.

*Edit. Forgot to add the aurora australis I caught a glimpse of Saturday night.

Amazing photos Are these all photos from separate patches, coz if so that's nuts!
You should post the Amanitas to the Amanita sub I made last year.
How cool are the lights?

Most were taken from three separate prolific patches from the garden with many cespitose clusters. There were also maybe a dozen or so smaller gregarious patches around. It's harder to tell along the forest trails as the patches deeper in haven't started fruiting yet and the roadside patches seem to string along about a one kilometer stretch of road. Where it's hard to tell where one patch ends, and the next one begins. Though not as much fruiting going on up there compared to a few weeks ago. Was honestly surprised to find as many as I did considering how dry this autumn has been compared to last year.
I'll remember to post there next time I find some... One of the neighboring properties a few doors down have several oak trees on their front lawn where I spotted dense clusters of huge toadstools. I was very tempted to walk up and take photos, but didn't want to trespass. I'm not as brazen as I was in my early hunting days.
Didn't expect to see the aurora at all. It came as a very pleasant surprise and a great way to end the days trip.

Wow a whole kilometre?
Haha take the photo for the love of Shroomery. Someone a few doors down has some subs growing on their garden bed close to the foot path. Im ever so tempted to grab some, but I won't. Considering they have a weirdo neighbour stop and look at the same spot every day on her walk they probably wouldn't be too surprised.
Yeah I didn't go out to look for the Aurora australis. I'm missing out. Is it going to be happening for a few days? Would have been spectacular mid trip

Wish my camera didn't suck, but this is kinda cool.
 These exist apparently:

-------------------- BREAKING NEWS: Local mushroom boy TERRORIZES residents. Eye witness reports say that the boy was seen "lying face down in mushrooms while laughing manically"; others reported the boy arguing with the mushrooms on "whether or not the weather can be weathered". Authorities are STILL on the hunt for this crazed mushroom boy: "It's really quite appalling that these dangerous criminals are still a threat to our local community. I will personally bring you to JUSTICE, mushroom boy." Thank you for that, Officer Smoldick, your service is very much appreciated. If there are people out there with any information regarding the mushroom boy incident, do not hesitate to contact your local authorities to assist with such a high profile case.

Haha a few years ago I used to pick from a neighbor's driveway / mailbox patch normally raiding it at dusk. It was a very fruitful yet risky spot. I probably scoped it out every time I foraged back then. It's no longer active from what I've seen in recent years. Now I'm the one with subs growing along the driveway / mailbox. Have a suspicion one of my neighbors had picked from there last year.
I'm not too sure but I believe the peak of the geomagnetic storm had passed over the weekend. I didn't see anything in the sky when driving back to Melbourne Sunday night.

Nah man, those are great photos.

Haha I want to swap houses with the place that has the patch. Lucky ducks. I can't try to grow mushrooms in my house coz my housemates are scared the dogs will eat it haha.
Oh bummer. Well I'll keep an eye out

This patch gives So nice to find some shrooms finally, returned extra mycelium to the ground after cutting the shrooms at the stem and left some small pins back there Seems like other people picking in that area have been ravaging and I can see big holes just left without any left behind

Wow, you have an extremely shitty attitude. Wishing people poison themselves over some mushroom mycelium is pretty fucked to be honest.

In regard to cutting vs pulling it really doesn't make much a difference either way. So long as people aren't picking mushrooms with a rake and shovel. The most important thing to ensure longevity is to make sure some mushrooms are left to complete their lifecycle and disperse spores. which is why leaving pins is considered good etiquette.
Technically the most efficient way to pick would be to gently pull. so that stem butts come up with as little substrate as possible. These can be placed in other suitable locations, or the mycelium grown onto cardboard to use in the same way. So long as they're not discarding these bits or letting them go to waste. Most of the time people don't have time for this and in which case I'd advocate "cutting". 90% of the time I pinch the base of the mushrooms with my fingers because I can't be bothered replanting or using stem butts to try and propagate new patches. I only really ever use the pulling method when I'm in the garden because I have all the time to replant these into fresh substrate and even grab some fresh substrate to replace a chunk in a patch if I feel like I've pulled up too much.
Ultimately some mycelium pulled up here and there isn't the end of the world. They're a tough & common species. I mean would you wish death upon an echidna or wombat if they started digging at a patch.
Either way you should tone down negativity and do some in depth research on the subject before having a tantrum. But somehow, I doubt you will.

Nickoloxious, love your work explaining this. I probably overpicked a little at my spot in the Eastern suburbs, last year, but the spots are still thriving a year later. Mycelium is hardy, and all you can do as a forager is learn your lessons moving forward
