"I want to be a caveman"
I AM a caveman, but being also a serious computer nerd I would love to work writing hard coded software for (I need more education big time) computer chips, but I currently work as the computer guy at a middle school. If I never make it to that level cool...I still got a job doing what I love with summer off. You should live your "dream" whatever that is. I followed mine and found myself mostly happy.

maybe this is something you shouldn't spend a lot of time idolizing about. Find something that you enjoy and that pays well enough, and stick with it. I read a psych article that said people are setting themselves up for dissapointment if they fantasize about a perfect job...there is no perfect job, so you should find a job that has perks, be it travel, good pay, few hours, physical fitness, fun co workers...

I despise the concept of clinging to an employee job for the rest of my life just because I need the next paycheck; hence the most ideal job/career for me would fall under the category of business and investing--which is where I'm currently working on getting involved..but I still work as an employee for a company at the moment.

later on down the road i would love to teach math.  I'm such a nerd that way! But when you explain something in front of 30 people like I did for my psi (peer student instructor) sessions, and then the lightbulb goes on upstairs for them, it's such a wonderful feeling. you can see it in their eyes when they finally "get it"

helping people rules all!

what I really want to do is discuss life with many different people. Idealy, I would love to connect with everyone but you know people like to be judgemental an all

--------------------
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

For me, the perfect job is in the kitchen. The stress, the rush, the pain and danger, the long, odd hours, the psychotic co-workers, getting to play with fire and knives, the easy access to drugs.... ah, good times. I wouldn't want to have to work anywhere else.

I think anyone would be happy with any job that pays well and (most importantly) boosts the ego.  I think the ego is key in deciding which career makes us happy.  Make sense?

My favorite is journalism. For a few years I ran a political radio program on a small independent radio, it was about politics and media. Instead of just wondering about things on your own, journalistic activity is the ideal excuse to get in touch with people who could answer your questions, and also with people you admire and would love to talk to. "Excuse me sir, I'm from the radio. I'd like to ask you this and that..." I interviewed (and sometimes got closer to) many people I admire, and it also put me in a position to publicly ridicule others I despise. Just lovely.

Now my main interest has turned to psychedelics, and I recently traveled to Peru to make a (state-sponsored ) radio documentary about ayahuasca (being a scrupulous professional, I just had to participate in a few sessions ). I hope that's just the beginning of it. I'd love to interview a few great characters from that field as well...!

I guess I found a way to turn any personal interest into a great job...

I think most of you would appreciate this job-
I would love to move to the UK and set up a large scale grow room and market them via shops and the internet, since fresh mushies are legal there. I derived this fantasy of mine from this news article, check it out!

My ideal job?

I'd be paid to sit at a desk all day and think, then either write down my thoughts or have someone else do that for me :smirk:

At present time my dream job would be to own a coffee shop (the kind that sells bud, of course). Mostly because this would not require an excessive ammount of distraction from my favorite passtime: thinking! I could sit in my shop all day and talk to the people who come in about anything I want. If they don't want to talk I could sit behind the counter and think/read my time away.

I'm 23 and still don't know where I am headed as far as a "career" goes...though I don't think that's much of a problem (CERTAINLY nothing to stress over!).

I would suggest adopting an open-ended plan of simply living and learning. My number 1 goal in this life is to understand as much as possible about myself and the world around me.

taking psychedelics and ranting to everyone about how wrong the world is,and have lots of lots of people listen to me,and convince them that the world needs to change.I'm talking about like a gathering of millions of people listening to me,everyones free, and they all understand, and thats when it all begins.....and everyone single person there takes a 1/4 ounce of mushrooms, and pretty much more than 98% of the crowds willl lose their minds.and itll take place in washington dc,and of course there would be other places in the country doing this by appointed spokes people,in everylarge city, thousands and thousands pounds of mushrooms will be grown and distributed, along with marjiuana.and then what will the governent do,everyone will be like,we don't care anymore,we see reality.then the next day,all the shit hits the fan,and the movement begins.thats my job.and we're all martyers,so fuck it,yea i'll die,get killed probably,if by any chance,i see reality even more so,i won't worry about that and i'll have the forces keep me from being killed, but since i said that last senstence, now i'm crazy to some of you.

My ideal job, of course, would be musician.

Being able to live comfortably without having to work some other job to support myself. Having enough time to completely focus on playing my instruments, writing songs, and practicing with my band. Having the resources and access to a professional studio with a great producer to assist in creating the musikk I wish to create. Being signed to a deal that will offer adequate promotion and distribution of my band's musikk.

Being able to go on world tours, and having a huge tour bus complete with a digital studio, video games, and plenty of marijuana and cocaine. Having the oppurtunity to pour massive amounts of energy out in performance in front of fans giving just as much energy back. Having a loyal fan base that understands the musikk we are putting out and totally love it. Being able to make enough money to bring my girlfriend out on tour for companionship. Being free to creatively pursue any musical interest I might find. Having the oppurtunity to pursue those interests with other, talented, like-minded musicians. Having roadies to carry my shit around!

Honestly though, when I get to the point where I at least don't have to work or concern myself with anything but musikk, then my life will be complete. Some interesting times approaching, no doubt...

My ideal job would be to start one of the first hash and marijuana selling coffee shops in Canada when they legalize marijuana. Set it out somewhere within an hour or so drive of the US in BC, it'd be perfect

An easy job that has to do with something I'm interested in (like psychedelics) and no or very little human contact (I'm schizoid). Testing video games would be a cool job.

I'd like to open up a tex-mex place in amsterdam. I'd bring my own kitchen crew. Probly illeagles from mexico.
Of course there would also be a large selection of marijuana, and beer.
out back i'd have a patio full of hamocs that could be paid for in 5 min incrimates.

if that was succesful, i'd try to open up a bbq joint also

From what I hear, video game testing is actually a gruelingly meticulous job that is not much fun at all.. heh..

Imagine having to intentionally try to recreate the same bug over and over again for testing purposes.. and you're always playing a prototype version of whatever game it is, so it's full of problems and can't be played through continuously.

It's kinda like working in an ice cream truck. SOUNDS like a lot of fun, but in reality it's extremely hot in those trucks and you're not allowed to eat any of the ice cream. Kinda sounds like hell to me, heh.

I'm already doing what I was meant to do. I have run into people or writings recently that have confirmed that there is something each of us is meant to do here in this life, and that if we find what it is we are meant to do, we will be happy.

And I'm reposting this from Emerson:

"Each man has his own vocation. The talent is the call. There is one direction in which all space is open to him. He has faculties silently inviting him thither to endless exertion.

"He is like a ship in a river; he runs against obstructions on every side but one; on that side all obstruction is taken away, and he sweeps serenely over a deepening channel into an infinite sea. This talent and this call depend on his organization, or the mode in which the general soul incarnates itself in him.

"He inclines to do something which is easy to him, and good when it is done, but which no other man can do. He has no rival. For the more truly he consults his own powers, the more difference will his work exhibit from the work of any other. His ambition is exactly proportioned to his powers. The height of the pinnacle is determined by the breadth of the base.

"Every man has this call of the power to do somewhat unique, and no man has any other call. The pretence that he has another call, a summons by name and personal election and outward "signs that mark him extraordinary, and not in the roll of common men," is fanaticism, and betrays obtuseness to perceive that there is one mind in all the individuals, and no respect of persons therein.

"By doing his work, he makes the need felt which he can supply, and creates the taste by which he is enjoyed. By doing his own work, he unfolds himself. It is the vice of our public speaking that it has not abandonment.

"Somewhere, not only every orator but every man should let out all the length of all the reins; should find or make a frank and hearty expression of what force and meaning is in him. The common experience is, that the man fits himself as well as he can to the customary details of that work or trade he falls into, and tends it as a dog turns a spit. Then is he a part of the machine he moves; the man is lost.

"Until he can manage to communicate himself to others in his full stature and proportion, he does not yet find his vocation. He must find in that an outlet for his character, so that he may justify his work to their eyes. If the labor is mean, let him by his thinking and character make it liberal.

"Whatever he knows and thinks, whatever in his apprehension is worth doing, that let him communicate, or men will never know and honor him aright. Foolish, whenever you take the meanness and formality of that thing you do, instead of converting it into the obedient spiracle of your character and aims."

The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.  -Teilard
