Found my first cubes! (Pic)

LizardKing was gracious enough to take me out to one of his fields today and show me the ropes of hunting cubensis since I've never picked them before.
He took me down a river in a canoe, we tried fishing for bass a little on the way down but never caught anything. Once we got to the field there were Chanterelles all over the hillside on the way up. We hopped the fence and got to picking. About 10 minutes into picking, we heard a gunshot. Scared the shit out of us. The gunshots continued the entire time we were there, but we determined we weren't in any danger. At one point we were walking along the fence and we heard a tractor coming so we fucking booked it. LK jumped the fence, and I followed behind him. Shitty part is that the post was rotten, so I slipped and my pantleg got caught on the barbed wire. My pantleg was ripped off and I got several gashes on the back of my thigh. One of them looks kinda like it might need stiches, but eh, fuck that. It'll scar either way. Turns out it was a false alarm, the tractor was in some distant field, so we went back to picking.
I may have gotten cut up, bloody, and dirty... But damnit, it was worth it.
LK's got all the pics from the field, and I think he'll upload them later this week. Call me a pussy but I didn't think taking my new $1000 camera in a canoe was the best idea... LK is a braver soul than I am.
Anyway, here's a pic of the mushrooms once I got back home(normal film canister used for size compairson):

:chuckles: don't feel bad about getting cut up,
When i visited LK, We picked some weiliis along this stream, I ate a few of them, And then he shows me this rope-swing, for crossing the stream, I took one look at that thing and told him if i went on it i would flop over and into the water, But there was a pan subb field on the other side of the rope swing So of course i halfway killed myself and fell up to my knees in water lol. -I had my digital cam too, but saved it somehow.
That was serious fun though. I felt like indiana jones except i suck at rope swings, real bad. lol
Keep shroomin, GG

Great finds Gumby/LK. Those sure do exhibit a lot of blueing. I bet they are very potent.
So, what's better, Weilli or Cube hunting?
Southerners sure do lead exciting lives...Seems like about 20% of hunts mention shotguns in some form or fashion. Nothing like a couple of blasts to get the adrenaline rush going.
ps. Did LK photograph any Chantrelles?
pss. Did you guys pick any Chantrelles?

Yeah, gun shots are a common sound here in the South. Especially out in the country. It's just unnerving when you're trespassing in an open field, ya know?
As far as which is more fun? Cube hunting, I'd say. I can only drive around neighborhoods scanning the grass for so long before I get car sick from all the eye movement... But the AC in the car sure is nice. Nothing like walking in an open field when it's 92F with 70%-90% humidity.
As far as the Chanterelles go, nah, we didn't get any pictures or mushrooms. I'm about chanterelled out... they're everywhere down here and I've almost had my fill :P
We found some kind of super agressive water snake. It wasn't a Cottonmouth, it didn't have vertical pupils and it had a red belly. I tried to catch the fucker 3 times and it struck at me mutipule times. Then he slithered into a hole under a tree. I think LK got a picture of it.

I haven't experienced gunshots yet, and I hope I dont:knocksonwood:, but man let me tell you what scares me is the wild hogs! them fuckers are huge, and I heard they arent shy of humans either. I was in a field the other night and seen one on the other side of the field running along the tree line, I about shat myself when I seen how big they are in person! Do I have to worry about those things, or will they come up and take a chunk out of my leg if I stumble close to one(and invade their territory.....!!)? Well, anyway, to stay on topic...you got way more than I did on my first sucessful hunt.

Great Adventure Gumby,
Sometimes int he clearcuts of the PNW huters show up where we are picking P. pelliculosas and they target practie. Sometimes they have four or five guns and different types of ammo for the guns.
Some dump garbage in or near the logging entrances to the clear cuts and leave old iceboxes and we come along and see them bullt riddened.
Luckilly when @cro and I went last year none of that occured but we did se a helicopter dumping chemicals over some part of the forested areas.
I often hear cunshots during huting season when inthe clearcuts. Once even saw cougar tracks near a riverbed.
Still kudos on your fine collection,
mj

Here's why you don't fuck around with barbed wire:
Keep in mind, I'm 6'5" so that cut is probably a little more than a foot long. I'm begining to think the deep cut may require stiches... It keeps bleeding.

maybe some butterfly bandaids will help?!? That and some neosporin.
If the redness around the cut gets worse, i would go have it taken care of.

damn man, that deep cut is going to need attention, unless ofcourse you dont mind a big ass scar. In that case, you would have to keep that cut clean as possible and use butterflys like Ooze said... It has opened up pretty wide, I would get it taken care of. you sure that fence wasnt rusty right? Tetanus can be fatal if left untreated. Im not saying you have tetanus, but just look at it that way...you can get tetanus from tear like cuts(even if the object wasnt rusty. So get that shit taken care of man! peace, -J

Heh, I'm expecting a scar... That's alright though. Chick dig scars
And yeah, the fence was rusty as all hell. BUT! I had my Tetanus shot a month ago(for the Trinidad trip), so I'm all good. No lockjaw for me.
