PF-TEK but in narrow mouth jars (oops)

Tried to follow the PF-TEK method but forgot to use the wide mouth jars so the cakes slide right out. I've been told I can just break up the mycelium and grow it in smaller containers.
Are there any special preparations I should make to the mycelium or containers for this?
Any advice on links for growing from here on out would be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏

I would break it up into shoeboxes with coir and pray they don't contaminate. Part of the reason PF is successful is that you don't break it up. It becomes less successful when you break it up, so if you want to do PF-tek again invest in the proper jars. Good luck!

Yeah either break them up with higher risk of losing the grow or you can try top fruiting them in the jars.

Theres a couple things you can try:
Use a rubber mallet to try to knock the cake out. Running hot water on the outside of the jar may help as well.
Carefully slice the cake inside the jar with a clean knife then fruit inside a plastic gallon baggie.
Lastly, you could try break the glass jars open with a metal hammer (use eye protection! Be careful!)
Regular mouth jars are the worst. They are really only good for food storage.

Thanks for the advice! Curious as to why you would say fruit in a trash bag as opposed to using containers? I bought some little meal sized ones to try and use.

Lately Ive been using gallon-sized Ziplock baggies (not trash bags) lately at cake FCs. They work very well in my experience.

Is shredding cakes to bulk really frowned upon now? Been away for a couple years but in the past I always had good results mixing a couple cakes with coir in shoeboxes

I've shredded a LOT of my cakes just fine.
I like doing something a bit different; carefully slice them in half with a knife and pull both parts out separately, then put them back together and wait for the mycelium to join them together again (you can dunk before or after, doesn't matter much)
You can also just top fruit even if it might get a bit painful to harvest

If it was spores that you shot into your cakes, which it usually is, then yes. That kinda defeats the whole purpose of pf tek, the basis of it being difficult for contaminant propagation because you arent shredding/shaking/spreading it.

I think a superior basis for doing PF cakes is to be able to grow mushrooms without a pressure cooker.
In addition, regular mouth half pints are less than desirable to use because they generally do not allow for sufficient gas exchange towards the bottom of the jars.
There are always exceptions which is how you see some people get away with using them from time to time, but they will not succeed no where near as much as using wide mouth half pint jars.

I mean, what's the difference between shredding mss cakes and going spore to grain?

I wouldnt say its "frowned upon", its just a little risky to do as the shredded cake could be infected after the shredding/casing process. Since OPs new to growing, i dont recommend it because of that. But yes, its still a decent method to use with proper precautions taken to prevent an infection.

I thought my pf cakes were testing out my lc for contamination and then slurry them to 40 jars of grain or get the most with a coffee grinder to do old timers straw tek in a shoe box. Narrow lids be damaged
