you have come to the right place. Don’t inject spores anymore. Inject liquid culture that you tested on agar. If you’re interested, there’s a Quite a few write ups around here. I keep my favorites in my signature.
Those bags are notoriously not sterilized by the time you get them.
But I can’t see anything necessarily wrong with the pictures, but I didn’t really get a good look. Can you get close? I think I’m seeing little black specs.

There’s black specs from where substrate has fallen off the side of the bag from fanning/ misting. that a better pic?

Best of luck. Usually black spects are pin molds that lead to Trish later.

I don’t think you should’ve opened the bag or fanned it. I think you accidentally shoveled contamination into it. Just leave it be and see what happens but don’t expect too much.

I have another syringe of spores to try again. Like I said it’s just trial and error for me at the moment. The bag is supposed to be opened a bit to let in oxygen. I opened it up more yesterday thinking I was maybe not getting enough fresh air but I believe it’s contaminated. Probably gonna make my own grain spawn and use a monotub next to try and keep it in a better environment

OK, then I have something you can try. It’ll only cost you a couple cents. Can you buy a bag of telephone agar?

You’re gonna wanna get some of those. Then you want plastic container that says five on the bottom. Or you can get some petri dishes. But for now you can just use any of the Tupperware in your house as long as it’s sterile. As long as it’s five grade, it can go into a pressure cooker. Then make a hole above where the layer of agar is going to be and cover that with the sticker filter or micro pore tape. Try to avoid using that if you can, though. The micro stickers are better. Fill your container and put it into the pressure cooker. Have some foil on top to control control condensation. 15. Psi for about 45 minutes. That will be sterilized, and then you can inoculate that with some of those spores in that syringe.
Sorry if that’s quite the wall of text.
Where are you working? Do you have an SAB?

Read the hitchhiker's guide. It will answer a lot of questions and just be glad you found it before spending too much money.

Agar and SABs seemed kinda overwhelming to me at first, especially as I was trying to learn everything else, but it’s actually super easy and totally worth it! Agar has become one of my favorite parts of growing, second only to eating the results lol

First flush ever, but I'm getting more than fuzzy feet. Ive had the lid closed this whole grow, but the last few days I turned the lid upside down to try an allow more gas exchange. Any other solutions? Ive been worried about bugs getting inside so ideally I prefer it with the lid closed. I'm always seeing random nats and flies in the same room as my grow. Any advice is appreciated!

For hydrating rye, do you guys use 12 or 24hrs?
This is my first time using rye that's not already prepared for me in an all-in-one bag. I didn't know you had to wash the dirty water away and I let it sit in the dirty water all night until this morning when I realized and washed them clean. They had been sitting in the water since 12:30 a.m. last night.
Did I mess it up? Should I start over?

I feel like thats how everyone thinks at first. Im an og cultivator and have been growing off and on for a long time. Was introduced to this hobby when I (regretably) stole my parents credit card to order spores over the internet in the early 2000s. I knew about agar for many many years but always thought, "oh that stuffs just for like professional biologists and lab geeks". Cant believe I never gave it a real shot until a year and a half ago. And like you, its my favorite, most interesting part of the hobby.

No. You need to let them soak for 24 hours anyways. Then you’re going to cook them briefly so it doesn’t really matter. Next time do it though.
