Hello to everybody so I spawned a pair of cakes based on the EF-Tek pattern (thanks V.L. for the template), with the only difference being that I can cook horse manure at home (ha ha). my substrate was manure:straw:oats (I prepared it in advance as I always prepare grain) in a ratio of 1:1:0.5 by weight. of water to make it just right. I put really little of the cover layer, just 1-2 mm. coz was a mistake because it was colonized as if it wasn't there. later attempts to stick the wrapper on the already colonized cake were unsuccessful.
Pan. TTBVI

and then I have another not-so-good cake. Pan. bisporus. it colonized very slowly, it took a long time to pin. one fetus.

Yes, I did it. even though it's just one shroom, I finally grew some pans (BVI) it's dry as fuck, I know. I'm putting it somewhere else next time. just got back from holidays, so couldn't really do anything about it.
V.L, you're the man.

Using a CV shell and a pf core with these, I definitely like the concept.

Half pint BRF with a half inch of pasteurized coir. Started with a spore syringe made from a previous flush. I got lucky with this one. I like growing cakes and wanted to bump V.Lโs thread for other cake growers to see what can be done on a small scale. V.Lโs method is different but he told me I could post on his thread.

Very interesting tek, thanks for the write up.
I find the part with the shredded hemp as nutritious source very interesting, do you think it could also be a good replacement for manure for spawning grains to bulk (thinking of hemp/coir/vermiculite)?
I know from Baba Yaga's "pans in monotub" thread that pans have also been successfully grown in shoeboxes/monos with cvg only, but seems like the results are subpar compared to grows with manure. Wondering if adding hemp into the mix would help there.

I've used brf/verm cores in these with success. Give it a shot!

Thank you for sharing this tek, I get a lot of inspirasjonfrom it.
Also i realy like your pictures.
Can you tell me a little about the FC you are using for these cakes? I see some clay pebbles in some of the pictures and are very curious.
Best regards

I'm in love with this thread! Can't wait to try! How vital is the JCM fc? Could you just mist the tops of the cased jars and keep ziplock bags on top?

Glad you enjoy! My FC is just 2 big boxes fittings in, one with few cm of water and an aquarium heater to manage temperature and the second box on it with few holes for air I put a layer of wet clay balls: cheaper and easier to find than perlite to help to keep enough humidity and when I need more FAE for some exotics that needs more air than cubes like tampanensis or Panaeolus, I put also an aquarium air pump (pumping air from outside the box into a jar of water in the FC).
Psychedelicgator you can try it without FC but some species will probably miss a bit of air for fruiting well.
