Storing LC? Syringe or jar? Airflow or not?
    #28743255 - 04/19/24 10:34 PM (2 months, 6 days ago)

How do you guys store LC? I have 300ml ready. I usually store in leur lock syringes in the fridge but I don't have enough syringes. I'm about to have 900ml ready in the next 2 weeks. Do I just stick them in the fridge with the gas exchange lids still on? Do I swap the lids out for solid ones in the still air box or under the flow hood before transferring them to the fridge or storing them at room temperature?

I was using the search function and saw someone else stored their LC in a mini fridge with Saran wrap and they said it smelled like cheese when they went to use it.

The broth in your jars is turbid. Was the broth clear when you inoculated?
What are you using as nutrient? And what was used to inoculate?

I use half filled media bottles for LC. No filter for gas exchange on the lids necessary if you leave that much head space.

Nutrient is LME at 0.1%. This makes super clear LCs and they do keep for a couple of years and longer at room temperature.

No fridge needed. I'm currently on a ten year bet on how long lc last in a jar. The 8 year test came back alright.  Mycelium is amazing,  minor air is needed sometimes.  Culture tubes are the best long term. No air needed for them.

I use a premix called Dr. Myc. It got lighter colored as the mycelium grew. I used sponsor bought spores and LC which I tested on agar. The one that's done "entheogen explosion" has produced 4 500ml jars of clean corn spawn.

You can expand that into a lot of secondary lc. Look up grain water lc, you won't be disappointed over the long period of time.

They were freshly stirred yesterday in the pic. first pic is from this morning after it settled all night. Second picture is corn spawn produced from the jar.

I'm not sure what you mean by turbid.

Grain water lc? I'll use the search function for that. Don't know why that didn't occur to me as a possibility.

This is what my LC premix looks like after I mix it with boiling water and pressure cook it at 15 psi for 20 minutes like the directions say. It has a little bit of particulate matter at the bottom that disappears as soon as I start the stir plate. Definitely cloudy and gray and gets clear as the mycelium grows.

This is what the LC premix looks like after dissolving in boiling water and pc'ing for 20 min. Slightly cloudy and some kind of particulate matter on the bottom that dissolves as soon as I put it on the stir plate. Looks weird definitely but it's worked for me consistently and I get it nearly for free. The "magic gypsum" they sell though is literally a scam.

That's off topic though.
