Is it worth it to try and save this monotub? trich contam
    #28742916 - 04/19/24 02:17 PM (2 months, 5 days ago)

Fruiting was going great until the mould showed up, wondering if it's worth trying to contain or just a failed tub and a toss.

That tub is done for. Id take it out of your growing space and leave it to do its thing outside for science, or just bury it out back.

You can’t save it, but keep it around for a couple days and you should still be able to harvest something. Whatever isn’t touching the mold will be good.

i dunno... honestly id be tempted to hack out as much of it as i could and try to get the pins to maturity.  (in another room or the garage)

A salt paste would stall that for about 12 hours to give those fruits some time to mature.  After about 12 hours I would harvest the fruits and discard the substrate.  A salt paste would also keep the spores suppressed and as opposed to cutting that patch out and dispatching billions of trich spores out into the surrounding area.

you can bury it outdoors if you live in an area that is possible and the weather is nice enough

The pins will mature a bit ahead of the contamination. Don’t worry, you’ll get like 10g dry and that’s better than nothing. I’ve been in this exact situation too many times to admit.

I would not put fruit that were in the same tub as that anywhere near my dehydrator fan.

Jussayin.

You wanna pick those pins and pop em fresh, well, alright then.

I’ve never tried salt, so I can’t speak from experience, but I would definitely just let it ride and grab what I can. If he can get 10g, then it’s basically like breaking even on costs. Don’t give up and scrap the whole thing.

You can try to contain it a bit until the flush is ready for harvest, harvest away from the trich, then dump it

You can't save tubs from mold, only bacteria

Great advice by ham.
Salt delays development and hinders trich going airborne.
But it´s a big (and already sporulated) patch already,
and i really wouldn´t extend the 12 hour recommendation,
as you will even have further trich outbreak patches,
and you just see it on the surface.

What i did a while ago as i caught the green early on a promising flush:
I poured salt above the infected patch,
took a plastic box (~double in floor space than the patch)
and rammed it top down to the bottom of the tub.
Worked, as it seemed to be the only patch.

In the end forget about saving tubs by cutting out contams or similar.
Exactly 12 hours since op now

Once you see Trish you can't stop it as it's the predator of white molds. Just try to make it the best you can on this flush then us the substance in the garden.

It’s definitely worth doing something to buy a few days for those pins to finish, but beyond that it’s done for.
