I might have placed my tub into fruiting conditions too early, any advise?
    #28724040 - 04/03/24 03:12 AM (2 months, 21 days ago)

Sup fellow shroomers

I hope everyone is doing well.

I recently started my mushroom journey and I purchased a all in one grow bag which I inoculated on the 04th of March.

I did a break and shake and let it colonize further but I did cut the bag open to spawn to bulk on the 28th of March.

I sterilized my CVG substrate with a pressure cooker and added it to my tub with the spawn and all that jazz.

However, I did keep the lid on for about 5 days after spraying the tub with some water and let it colonize further in the dark. But I opened it a bit too early because it looked like the substrate was a bit too wet so I soaked it with paper towels since I was scared it would get wet rot.

So now the lid of the tub is slightly open for FAE and I fan it about 3-4 times daily and barely mist it since the humidity levels remain very good but I don't have any light since I'm scared the mycelium isn't colonized enough and that premature pinning will happen.

Can anyone please advise as to what I should do or any recommendations?

For one your entire process for the most part is not correct because suppliers are all working off super old info.

Light doesn't cause pinning and is favorable at all stages of growth, agar, jars, tubs, etc.

They can all be in 12/12 light.

Stop fanning as well, that's pointless.

South African?
I use the same Big Jim tubs.

Yes, I'm South African. Isaw these BigJim tubs and thought they would be perfect for growing so I bought a couple.

Its been a few days since I posted but I think things are headed the right direction. I kept the lid on (not flipped just shut it normally to try maintain a sufficient microclimate).

I saw my first small pin today and also started a 12/12 lighting cycle.

Should I flip the lid at this point to introduce FAE or should I just keep the lid shut?

flip the lid if your mushrooms start to get fuzzy feet, I'm sure the lid on normally will do fine for now

Just an update guys:

The substrate is fully colonized at this point and hypae knots are forming along with early signs of primordia I guess. I've got a lot of side pins though.

I was wondering if I should apply a thin casing layer at this point or just leave it be?
