I've also seen with Nats that after they break the veil they will still grow quite a bit sometimes.

Nats grow substantially after veil break.
You can faintly see where the veil broke at the base of the stem here.

Technically nats do not have a veil. At least not like cubes do. I have 1 culture (planning to get more in the future) and that one breaks the "veil almost a pin stage. After the break it takes around 4 days even to get them to fully mature and start dropping spores .

Yeah I've been a bit paranoid about when to shake, heard a lot of conflicting things about when the right time for the first shake is and I haven't wanted to fuck this bag up as it's my only active one for right now. Got all my psychedelic eggs in one basket at the moment. Did give it a good break and shake yesterday and am already seeing some recovery though so it seems my paranoia was unwarranted, seems to be a common theme so far in this hobby. Gotta start giving fungi the credit it deserves for how hardy it is and stop worrying so much.

Interesting, I wonder why that would be? You'd think once they drop their spores, evolutionarily their job would be done. The human equivalent of that would be a man only being able to get fully hard after he finishes.

Well they don't drop spores when the veil breaks, in fact many mushrooms are the same which is why I don't tell anyone to harvest at veil break.

Found an interesting pheno while harvesting my tubs 1st flush yesterday and it got me wondering:

IIRC I've read on here that with certain varieties (like PE) a wavy/bumpy stem up near the cap is a rough indicator of higher potency.. Anyone know if that's true for nats as well (or true at all for that matter)? I'm only asking because this particular fruit I saw had a wavy silvery appearance high on the stipe, and it blued deep and quick when I cut it - as soon as I cut it the stem was already aqua before my knife even finished cutting, the pic above was taken at less than 10 seconds after the cut.

the only indicator of potency is digesting it (and slow growth has also a decent correlation..) Looking forward for your articulated trip report, the last ones were top notch

(wow, we have a "The Fountain" gif, what a great movie!)

Awww shucks, thanks for noticing... will do
As a little preview for the full trip to come, on harvest night when I pulled the "thic boi" out for cloning/printing it had a couple little passengers stuck to it:

They were only 3.2 grams wet, which is like .25g dry, so I thought "why not?" Popped them in my pie hole and raw-dogged it to get an idea how strong these were, no lemon TEK or any prep. Finished up loading my dehydrator and reclined on my bed...
Hardly any stomach upset/nausea compared to my first trip and I shit you not... within 20 minutes my body felt light, felt super relaxed, the shadows in the room started to sway and "breathe" and the light went from soft yellow-white to bright rosy-sherbert orange.
If that's an un-lemon TEK'd .25 grams... what the frick is a full-prepped gram going to be like???

I would add to this that a Qtest reagent test is a fine way to gauge potency. Here's what my last QTest on a run of P. Nats looked like ->

Oh gotcha! Yeah life happens... Sometimes I wish shit would keep me preoccupied so my shit grows all the way! 🤣. I mean potency And the veil, nothing to do with spores, other than they taste bad.

What movie is that from?
I've just read that after the veil breaks they mainly put on water weight. I feel like that's accepted "common knowledge"

Yes I agree spores taste mushroomy on bad notes. Can always rock sporeless varieties and not worry too

Yeah for what though? Do they keep making psilocybin in a linear fashion? As they get bigger? Or does it slow down? I mean I get growing them out, because that's what we do in this cult is grow mushrooms, some are very pretty too when they are all the way mature, like the wavey caps stuff.

It's not just water weight. Some mushrooms literally go from tiny to large after veil break.

All my pins had blue rings where the veil was. Likely just bruising on the veil from rapid growth/stretching:
