How long have you been shroomin’?

Hey all, I just became curious as to how many years people have been involved in the consumption of shrooms. I think it’s a pretty consistently made point that if you do it too often it loses the magic, but this is a very active message board so obviously people still use them, but I’m just wondering how people have managed to stay involved for lengthy periods of time and not lose the magic of it all. I first tried them 18 years ago 3 times and then once 6 years ago and now have been exploring more consistent use the past couple of months.

On and off for about 12 years. I think that it depends on a couple of things. I used to be in the go big or go home camp and thought that taking less than enough to not speak was not properly tripping or that it was too much to be worth doing for recreation only. The expectation of a full blown catharsis every time becomes exhausting and trips become cynical and centered around problems and negative thinking.
I found the biggest thing to let go of when it comes to tripping is the idea of tripping itself and to let it be whatever it presents itself as at the time. This means usually taking way less (1-2 grams) and spending more time and effort on life outside of the tripping experience. I’ll know the time to go big is coming when those 2 gram/ half tab doses stop surprising me and they have yet to do so in the couple years I’ve been doing it that way.

It's been about 35 years since I first tried them.
I've had several inflection points in my life where they suddenly became more consistently available. Since I began growing in earnest about 8 years ago, they've become perpetually available.
The magic has never waned, but the experience has become less fraught with worries about getting sick, getting too high, etc. I've gotten better at growing them, but also better at doing them.
I personally find that the frequency of use naturally works itself out. Actually, I sometimes wish I was more disciplined about doing them regularly. I'll sometimes find every excuse under the sun to put it off, or simply forget that it's an option. But if I'm having a grand old time and try to keep drinking from the well, then my tolerance spikes and I naturally just stop doing them for a while.
Heavy or repeated use is pretty much only associated with specific events like concerts, festivals, trips out of town, or experiences out in nature. I'm not one to just sit around the house and chase the dragon.

Since 1993 on and off. There's been some years I've eaten psychedelics every weekend and I've taken a couple of 5 year breaks too. I just do as I feel.

It was a great year. Wandering around the forest being taught by others. Campfires and melting in the cold. Avoiding police out to catch those darstardly shrooms loving hippies in the forests of Bailingup.

Damn there are some shroom veterans on this site lmao. My first mushroom was on the 28th of September last year so I’m very new to psychedelics (never done lsd or mescaline or anything else). But I love psychs a lot, and I can’t imagine them losing their magic unless I did them like every week.

I don't remember exactly when it was, probably like 1992, I remember hiching up to buffalo for a grateful dead concert and got a ride from Blue Field wv, and they smoked me out the whole way, bought me a ticket, and gave me a "handful" of booms and some paper. Steve Miller opened up for the dead and that was a colorful fucking show

I was fourteen or fifteen and my older brother gave me half an eighth. I'm now forty-four.
So, thirty years. Give or take.

12 years now. Tend to have them regularly when they’re in season and sparingly in the warmer months. I don’t know why but I much prefer to eat them while finding/looking for them. Plus I find tripping in colder weather much more tolerable than the height of summer.

Yeah the most beautiful moment of my life was when I went looking for them and ate them with my friends. There’s nothing quite like being in a large field, tripping balls and seeing the world move and change colour at the same time as looking for libs. Massive fun (I did kinda freak out after though cause I took too many lol)

My first trip with mushrooms, and psychedelics in general, was 17 years ago....
...I've had somewhere around 150 to 200 trips with mushrooms specifically since then and I can't say there has been any "loss of the magic". I find that my trips/sessions with mushrooms (and other psychedelics) only become more interesting & deeper as I grow older, as I have more "life experience", and as I learn & obtain more knowledge. There is more & more to reflect on and ponder about, the platter of "food for thought" only grows larger as I grow older.

Yeah I guess it all comes down to perspective though and why you’re using the mushroom. I imagine if your true intentions are to expand your mind and knowledge be able to see into yourself better and be able to understand the way you are better then more you take them probably the more you’ll achieve that. But for those who do it just because they want to trip balls with friends it would probably get less interesting after a while. That’s why doing it less often is probably best, for your enjoyment of it and also your health.
But personally I love them so much and mushrooms really help me so much and help really mature me and help me learn different perspectives of things. I personally can’t ever see them getting old and boring for me for that reason

My first time I was around 16, did them a bunch of times for a few years then stopped until about 2 years ago (I'm 36 now).
Getting back into into them has changed my life for the better.
