What kind of graphing calculator do you have?
    #2868929 - 07/08/04 01:32 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Everyone that is taking or has taken advanced level math courses, what kind of graphing calculator do you have? I am thinking about purchasing the TI-89 Platinum. Have you all used this one yet. It looks pretty cool.

I was thinking about getting that too for my upcoming stats classes. As of now I have a TI-83 Silver Edition. It's getting old, and at college we are never allowed to use a calculator for most math classes.

I use a HP 48G, as I have for about a decade. Many people hate the HP calculators due to the usage of RPM (reverse polish notation). One would have to put the numbers to be calculated in, and then the operand needs to be used. The capabilities are amazing, but the learning curve can be steep. Before using the HP I use now, I used multiple TI and a Casio brand graphing calculator.

The one I stole from school in 9th grade,I think it's a 82.

an 82, but havent used in ages

89s will do all the math for you.

My suggestion, although youll probably laugh and ignore it, dont use a graphing calculator

I've used all TIs except 86, and the 89 is the most capable.

I got a ti-83+. I used to have a shitload of cool games on it, but this one math class this bitch made us reset are calc before tests. Too bad i just put the cheat notes in the archive memory and just did normal reset. It fucked up the assembly launcher thing and im too lazy to put it back on since id never really play them. In highschool tho, calculator games where key.

We sell the hp ones at work, ive played with the displays a few times... i dont think i like them.

Just ask the instructor(s) what they recommend. Some instructors require a calculator with certain capabilities, while others don't allow one at all. Hell, some instructors require a laptop.

I never got anything better than a TI-83 Plus. It served its purpose, but it's just too slow to do anything useful with nowadays.
