Atropa balladonna
    #2872023 - 07/09/04 09:55 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Here is 1 of my much loved and cared for babies, i grew them right from seed quite some time ago.

Now the question,
My 2 plants are outside in the cold UK weather at the moment and i have a propagator, will it affect them been cold , should i bring them inside?? The only worry was that i do not have any light source, so will normal room light be any good?? I do not mean pitch black, i mean i don`t have any special lighting but do atropa belladonnas need special lighting??
Somebody shed some light.

atropa belladonna is used to european winters. i have belladonna coming around my house year after year , and no uk winter is near a arctic winter so they should be able to handle it.

The leaves look more like a datura to me..? As does the seed leaf...
My belladonna leaves are more ovate and not so strongly textured (ie, without the wrinkly bumpiness of yours), and the seed leaves are smaller. But I suppose it could be a different strain, or just different growing conditions.

It will do fine outside. I found a wild one near my house, which I took a cutting from, and that is outside in the soil. I also have some seed-grown ones in pots, which I might bring in.
If you do leave it outside in the soil, the plant will die down in winter but grow up again from its roots in spring. It may not have enough root mass to do this in a small pot, though, I am not sure...

I'll get some pics of my belladonnas, and my metel for comparison...

I planted some datura seeds too, in the same tray, i just suspected them to be belladonna because the first leafs are big and a heavy purple color on the underside, and they smell strongly of atropine, Like almonds(never smelt a datura so strong before). So i figured them to be Belladonna, Who is right?? Get your pics loaded up and we will see..
I will post another small seedling which grew out the seedtray, this is small and what i thought would be datura, Just go get my camera.....maybe this one will be belladonna?

I now believe (with some research) that i do indeed have my belladonna seedlings.
PROOF:

That belladonna picture above is mine, from erowid. notice my toes in the corner of the picture. you do not have belladonna plants. They are likely d. metel.

Those arent your toes.

those are my toes. Like said several times before, its likely a variety of datura. It certainly does look like a nightshade of some sort.

Shouldn`t i have them in a propagator then? I`m in the UK and the weather has been shit. I dont need any special lighting equipment do i?
Come on man, help.

Once it gets a little bigger, and certainly once it flowers. I'm not sure it's a belladonna, to me it doesn't seem like it.
