I've tried mushrooms 10 times over the years. These were unusual psycho-emotional states, I felt good, I felt bad and even very bad, but I didn’t understand what the benefit of this was, what could they change in me?

Did you have specific intentions when you used them? If you take them just to see what happens, you won't get much out of your experiences.

I wouldn't worry about it. The universe will call you when your time comes.
Do you understand the Eleusinian Mysteries? Have you read The Republic by Plato? Do you understand Joseph Campbell? Listen to Everything in it's right place by NIN. Do you want to become a monk? Do you understand Hinduism and Buddhism? Do you want to see reality and truth? Break the 4th wall? See through the illusions and self delusions? God realization? Enlightenment? Spiritual awakening? Watch films like Source Code, Matrix, Wizard of Oz, Truman Show, Edge of Tomorrow, Groundhog's Day, Free Guy, Everything Everywhere All at Once, etc. Understand Carl Jung. Check out Terrance McKenna.
If you had a strong desire you would have done a heroic dose by now. 5 grams dried shrooms laying on your bed in silent darkness for 6 hours. But this may not be your path or journey. Follow your own path. Be wise. Be happy.

What, intentions? I have no idea what the intentions should be before using them :/ Does the intention to have a good time or discover something new count? Could you please be more specific with your words?

He’s right, psychedelics really do their magic when there is something that needs to be addressed psychologically and going into the experience with intention and humility gets results. That being said, they only open the door. You gotta walk thru. They don’t do work for you, ya know. The mushrooms at a sufficient dose will push your ego aside and let you view your life circumstances without the filter of your personality or habitual thinking. Your concepts of how things should be, your education, beliefs, can all be called under question. Real growth can happen here. You will be given the opportunity to learn new ways of perceiving and interacting with the world. They won’t do the work for you, but it does open the door for you to do it.

Maybe they're just not for you. There's nothing wrong with that, psychedelics are not for everyone.

I like to think of the experience as life over the span of a year or so condensed into 4 hours. If approached in the right manner it can give you a new perspective on how things are, how things come and go including intense emotional states

I'm from the recreational use side, just take them because they're great and make me feel great. Beyond that I try not to think too much into anything, rather focus on a positive existence and allow the mushrooms to nurture that existence.

Seriously consider asking the mushrooms.
They're organic sentient beings like and unlike us.
Try meeting them at the place where they're allowed to have a human experience while you seek a fungi experience.
Don't categorize what happens.
Allow for mutual communication. We do this all the time with animals such as dogs, cats, horses, and so on. Simply extend this communicative possibility.
Most importantly, open your heart. Your heart sense will figure it out.
Rationality is a tool you need to set aside. There are places you cannot take this tool, so just relax and leave it behind. It'll still be there later if you need it.

In my case I used them to treat my depression. The euphoria and good feelings is something I can recall once I am not high and help me get through the lows of the depression. I have also had challenging trips that tested my emotions and past experiences in my life. They made me realize flaws in my behavior that need to change. At some point they made me realize that my depression is the result of cPTSD. That's when the real work begins. Being aware of where you need to change and what you need to change is half of the work. The other half is actually doing those changes. The mushrooms are not a medicine that automatically shift your mind. Instead, they tell you what changes you need to make. If you don't work on those changes very little may happen.
Nothing wrong with an intention of having a good time. But here the question is, what do you do with that experience? Do you ignore it? Or do you try to bring that state of mind to your sober life in order to become more positive about life? If you are asking the question of what could they change in you it may be a good idea to reflect on your own life and see if there is anything you actually want to change. We can't be high all the time. But we can try to shift our focus in our sober life in order to feel the gratitude and happiness that one experience while under the influence of the mushrooms.
The intention of discovering something new also counts but, do you know what do you want to discover? Is there a problem you are working on? Or do you just hope that all of a sudden you will have a revelation of something you haven't even thought about. The latter is not very likely to happen. Some focus is needed.

Very well said VP.
To the OP: have you considered reading any literature on the matter? The travelog chapter of Michael Pollan's "How To Change Your Mind" provides a good example of the author experiencing a few meaningful, helpful trips. I'm drawing a blank for a few other examples but I'm sure if you dive into the Trip Reports section, you can find other examples told firsthand by people who have been helped by psychedelics. The research by Johns Hopkins University and others for helping cancer patients deal with end of life also comes to mind.
-------------------- Things I've learned so far: Death with consciousness can be boring. Balance is important. Set intentions, not expectations. Sad trips can be helpful as well as challenging trips. Stick with your first dose. We learn more when we listen rather than speak. Be kind. The small moments in life that tend to go unnoticed are sometimes the most beautiful.

My psych use has been a bit of an on/off switch in that I’ll not use any for years and won’t really think anything of it. The recurring theme is any life change that brings me to a point where I have to reinvent myself in some way. Real pace changers ya know.
Once I pick them back up I always wonder why because they suddenly do something almost totally different. Same “high” so to speak but boy how things change. And that, I believe, is what it all comes down to for me. Every time I go into the experience approaching it with the previous stint in mind, the adjustments (not necessarily improvements just general changes) I’ve made to my life open up a whole new side that is never what I expected. This new angle is usually uncomfortable at first, but letting go of that discomfort is like taking a metaphysical 60lb vest off of me. Then I realize I just keep doing it over and over and wonder again why I even did them in the first place haha.
“Damn I haven’t done shrooms in a while” “Why tf did I do this” -first hour of first trip “Omfg this is amazing why did I stop doing this” - trips 1-5 “This is boring why did I start doing this again” - 6-whenever I accept it’s over 😂 ^ Literally every time.
I just have to accept that I’m usually looking for “more” out of things and if for nothing else, a big part of the experience is becoming ok with just what I need.
