hmm. better than last time i guess. they are really having a hard time getting their roots down into the water. the large lava rocks are to blame i think. one or two seem a bit more healthy than the rest. i'll keep em going to see what happens, but i don't think they will be very good. three weeks since last post. maybe they might be alright.

I considered it when I started growing mj. Have to buy the manifold for mist or make your own. Seems like it would be hard to get equal pressure. Some of the nozzels would mist a lot and others not so much. On top of that you wouldn't be able to have a lot of solution in your grow container to keep the manifold above water. I really don't like low water volume setups. I did dwc in one bucket but hated adjusting pH three times a day and constantly mixing up new solution. Rdwc is where it's at. Two containers, twenty plus gallons. Stable for days. If I want to adjust anything I can add directly to the second container without worry of fucking the roots. Also I think the air gap in dwc is optimal but that might just be bias on my part

Looking at the link posted at the beginning of this thread... It seems that the plants documented had yellow tips for the duration of the grow. Mine have the yellow tips too. I've been careful with the pH and have not added too much fertilizer. I thought maybe the lights I have are too intense and the yellow is from bleaching. Who knows. I might try raising the lights a bit and see if it makes a difference. Other than that, they seem to be doing well

Looking at the roots today. Some of them are getting quite long. The longest is seven inches or so from the bottom of the basket. The roots in the water are great looking. White and clean. I'm seeing the portion of the roots above the water line dying off. They turn a bit of a brown color and narrow until dead. Some look kinda globby. Biofilm or some such.

I'm not sure if the air gap is killing them. They are getting plenty of moisture from bubbles exploding on the surface of the water. I've decided to bring the water level up to the bottoms of the basket. My rationale is that the roots that are submerged look great and that the oxygenated moving water will inhibit any buildup of nasties. I might bring the water level up further to submerge all the roots I can. Fingers crossed

I'm calling it quits. It's time for outside poppies anyways. I transplanted the six plants to pots outside.

Something like hydroguard might have helped. Maybe a drain to waste system might have worked better. The roots in the air gap just kept dying.

Thanks for trying this. I was super curious and pictured giant hydro pods.

I gave up on poppies a long time ago. Dozens of fat pods are pretty much equal to one pill. Why risk a big grow in time and space just to get one cup of tea?
But I wish you the best !

which reminds me is why I made this account was to post about poppy but I realize that's just not a reality due to current drug laws. If laws change and growing plants for personal use becomes OK? then sure, I can talk about poppies again. Otherwise they are just illegal plants and highly noticeable= no go.

I'm going to try again this winter with a different setup. Maybe hempy bucket. I've seen people grow pretty decent autos in a solo cup with coir. I'll do it on a smaller scale maybe with multiple methods. See what works

lol, I assume that to mean higher wattage makes more pods right? but let me run this by you: what if humans were allowed to grow poppy to their own content, then what would happen? would we see a fent and heroin epidemic like we do now? I think not. Can you explain why I still can't grow poppies legally ? when I only want a medicine for when needed?

Nah, I just disagree that it takes dozens of pods to have an effect. You probably were doing something wrong or had shit poopies. It makes me sick even thinking about ingesting dozens of pods. I feel like I'd die.

I'm not sure but I think opium was made illegal something like a century ago. Nobody liked Chinese or whatever. It's still illegal cause drugs r bad m'kay. I dunno where you live and what your setup is like but you can easily plant a flower garden and sneak some poppies in here and there, provided you have a yard. Even if you don't there are empty lots and ditches.

Agreed. Dozens of pods would be a crazy overdose for me too.

Either you had a crazy tolerance or the pods were very weak.

Two green pods used to get me pretty smashed.

Yeah about the same for me. Four dried pods in some water with a shot of booze had me all set

Maybe you have it too warm, poppies like it quite cold and can die if it´s too warm.
Especially when they are small and sensitive.
