So... What would it take?
    #2870524 - 07/08/04 11:23 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Ok - I've been doing a lot (and I mean a ton) of activism stuff surrounding Kerry in the last few days, indcluding helping setup for the Kerry press-conference Tuesday morning here in my (current) home town of Pittsburgh. I've gotten into some very interesting and some very weird discussions with independent voters as well as die-hard Bushies. The one thought that keeps coming to mind during these discussions is "what would it take?"

What would it take for you, assuming that you are not already solidly in the Kerry (or at the very least, the "Anybody But Bush") camp, to decide once and for all to vote to kick Bush out of the White House?

Is there an argument that can be made to convince you? Is there a question that can be answered? Something about Kerry's plans once he gets into the White House? Some piece of information or evidence that would convince you that Bush doesn't have the best interests of Americans at heart (or even that he is a criminal)?

What would it take for you to not give your vote to W in November?

And I'm really not interested in any snide answers... if you don't want to answer honestly, I don't want to hear it.

Gern

Convince me that Kerry is even aware that this country has a constitution. Prove to me he will not be bullshitting us completely when/if he takes the oath of office and will uphold that constitution. That's all it'd take buddy.

I realize you lean left Shroomism so feel free to decline the invitation, but the Libertarian candidate for President would do both of those things, if that happens to be what you're looking for.

What do you mean by this, seeing that we are officially not in a war right now? Do you suggest we retract troops and let the chips fall where they may?

If we leave now, Iraq would collapse, either internally or externally, mostly both, and would become another hotbed of terrorist activity in the region. I don't think we should've gone in the first place, but I definetly do not think we should leave now that we've gone and gutted their government and security forces.

From what it looks like to me, Iraq is collapsing right now. Or already collapsed, take your pick. It's definitely not in as good shape as it used to be.

Iraq is a hotbed of terrorist activity right now. It has been ever since the western forces occupied it. It wouldn't be one, were there are no more U.S. soldiers hanging around to kill.

As compared to what other nation/state collapses that you have observed? Honestly, I don't know how its going over there, I'm not there. It doesn't look good, but that is not to say all hope is lost.

I completely agree.

Let me ask you this, when you step in dog shit, do you sit there and bitch about how much better it was before you stepped in the dog shit, or do you find a hose or a stick to clean your shoes and get on with it, hopefully looking out for dog shit in the future?

I usually clean up the dog shit, but that's just me.

I'm amazed that Americans are still so obsessed with such an old constitution that has been proven to be a non-item so long ago, and so many times.

not to say it isn't a good constitution, its just interesting that it is still relevant to people long after its demise.

I'm amazed how slow and behind other countries are when the US has been around a little more than a couple hundred years. What country are you from?
