Jars
    #2865767 - 07/07/04 04:25 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I just pulled my 1/2 pint jars out of the pressure cooker to find the vermiculite at the bottom of my jars to be a dark, almost burnt looking color. I left the jars in for an 1. Could they have burned? And if so what are the chances of them still producing if I add my spores?

Was there a towel or rack holding the jars off the bottom of the PC?

No there was no water left. I think they are burned a little bit but not super badly. Is there anyway mushies would still grow in the jars?

My pressure cooker has a rack in the bottom to hold them off the bottom. I've never had this problem before. Maybe I just didn't put enough water in. What about the burnt substrate would restrict growth?

Yep your water level was too low at the start...really really try not to do that since a PC with no water can create a mess, melting, burning, cracking, etc.
Not really sure about the burnt substrate...my guess is that the bottom would end up slow to colonize if at all.  :puke:

Hey Mon, throw them away. It took 4 ever with my burnt jars. I did other jars the next day and they were done twice as fast. If you don't mind the wait and contams. Good luck
