What hapened to me, on some test samples was this :

The colonizing mycellium got blue on the surface, because i was misting the wrong way, spraying directly at the mycellium and thus damaging the surface.

Blueing stopped/got less intensive after i started to mist parallel to the box, above it, and trying to get the first part of the spray to go beyond the box.
Thus letting just a fine mist "rain" gently falling on the mycellium from above.

yeah i have one of those super fine misting mister spray bottles and thats what i do just spray it diagonally over the tubs and let gravity pull down the mist onto the substrate. i get nice little almost microscopic water dropplets covering the surface. so im definitely not harming it with the spray but it does suck up thise dropplets fast like less than a hour and i need to spray again. so i think its just extremely thirsty idk

If your sub was hydrated properly and your tub was setup properly you shouldn't have to mist.

Misting anything besides the walls of the tub causes bruising and eventually overlay.

Your time would be better focused on figuring out why your sub is constantly dry. It's usually because of too much FAE or improper coir hydration.

i followed pastywhyte tek on coir and had my coir at proper field capacity for sure and its in a unmodified shoebox with lid snaped on. only thing i can think is due to its small size like a inch maybe inch and half thick substrate even at a 3 to 1 ratio maybe it was just too thin of a substrate? idk all my other totes with a thicker 3 to 4 inch sub are doing great. this was just the left overs i had a pint of spawn so i just threw that 1 pint of spawn in with 3 pints of coir. after fully colonizing it started to look really really dry no beads of moisture and the little specks of coir that were still uncololinized was very light brown tan like definitely all its moisture was sucked out of it so i did some light misting with a misting spray bottle allowing it to fall onto the shoebox and for a few days it was loving it sucking it up to a dry surface but now its blue through the top layer still have the lid on snapped on not just laying on top. so yeah idk bro not a big loss if its a gonner but would like to understand why it was going so good then just fizzled out on me...

Yeah, next time you have such a small amount to use up, try ziplocks.
