Why so much water in my agar?

So any idea why there is this much water? Also will the water kill the mycelium that has grown?

Is there a heat source under where you’re storing these? I had this same problem and it was due to a light being mounted to the shelf below where I had them.

It is not ideal, but it won't necessarily kill the mycelium.

Excess water and stagnant conditions increase your chances of contamination. But it's not the end of the world.

As Smellyhobbit said, a heat source can cause this. Heat causes the water to evaporate, then it condenses on the lid and drips down. The best thing you can do is make sure your plates are in a relatively cool, well-insulated area. I keep mine in a plastic shoebox, inside of a bottom drawer.

What agar recipe are you using?

The condensation is caused by heating up and cooling down.  Consistent temperature will thwart condensation.  That culture is ready to transfer or inoculate grains with.

I was storing it in the fridge in a container to help keep it for a little longer. I don’t know how to make slants yet but want to learn.

Pulling the culture in out of the fridge will cause condensation.  The best way to store cultures on agar long term in Master Culture Slants.
