They are taking over my basement.

They used to all fit in this closet.

Now they're in every room.

One side of my flower tent...

and the other.

Winter is almost over. Maybe I should move somewhere warmer.

I'm going to be cutting on some bridgesii in the next month or two.  Indoor grow lights weren't enough for thick growth but did get substantial thin growth.  I'm going to harvest the thin stuff before I move them outside.  I'd like to graft the tips to something to get the collection growing.  I don't have any actives I want to graft them to.

I live in a cooler climate where few cactus survive outdoors so my options are mostly houseplant cactus.  Any common candidates that might work?

You can graft them to anything, even non-actives.  In many cases you might actually benefit from grafting it to a non-active species like pereskiopsis or opuntia, both of which are quite fast growers.  I've had success with opuntia as a grafting stock even though it sounds non-standard and uncommon to do that.

Thank you! I think I know where I can get opuntia.  I'll have to wait until it gets warmer to order peris, I'm afraid they'd freeze in shipping and I've never seen them locally.

Hope these make it.  Were in some smaller containers that werenโ€™t ideal and were getting overrun by mosses.

Bro is there any etiolation on any of them? They look great by the way and yes you should definitwly move somewhere warm. Im lucky wnough to be in zone10a. Thats the sweet spot. Even still we get freezes from timw to timw but it only affects the the tips of most my cacti

Here are some trichs outgrowing the cold burn. Notice those tips?

If I can get the soil dry enough by the time they have to come inside, there's not much etiolation. There will be a few that do a little and a ghosty white pup or two that pops up in the dark. I do have to adjust the closet ones back into the full sun in spring more carefully.

The ones under the leds don't quite get the growth they do outside, but some get pretty decent growth. I've noticed that some clones do well inside, and some literally refuse to grow until it's almost warm enough for them to be outside again.

I'm in a zone5a right now, they get 7 months outside in the greenhouse give or take. I've seen people growing in ground put cups on the tips on when the temps dip. I've had a few get slight cold damage like that a few times, but they seem to usually just grow right through it. Yours seem to be doing that too.

Looking good man! When the biggest ones there double in size you'll be ready to wean them into lower humidity.

What variety are they?

Thanks for the tip!  Left to right:
Psycho x open, Jules G x Macro (didnโ€™t do well), Peru x Pach.  These were 5 year old seeds so thought the results were decent.
